Product Designer
Job Description
AXS is hiring a Product Designer to join the Carbonhouse team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This onsite role focuses on leading client website design from concept through launch while keeping a product mindset to identify reusable patterns for the core platform.
Role Focus
Lead client website designs end-to-end, presenting concepts to clients, interpreting brand identity with high craft, and driving each project through launch on the platform.
Maintain a product lens throughout delivery by pressure-testing scalable patterns that can strengthen and expand the core platform over time.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end client projects by collaborating closely with the Creative Director, presenting concepts, interpreting client brands, and delivering successful outcomes from initial idea to launch.
- Serve the client and build the product simultaneously by delivering tailored solutions while identifying reusable patterns that compound value beyond the launch date.
- Design in real materials by using AI-assisted tooling to prototype and validate concepts in environments close to a functioning front end, so outputs and development hand-offs are pre-tested.
- Partner with development as a peer by consulting on technical feasibility early, communicating in engineering terms, shaping clean work, and reducing development churn by resolving complex structural questions before build starts.
- Direct AI as part of the workflow by architecting prompts, building small automations, evaluating machine output, and applying design taste to determine when generated drafts are strong or require adjustment.
- Contribute to shared design systems by helping build and maintain components, patterns, and design tokens informed by real client needs.
- Turn data into client and product decisions by analyzing user analytics and usage metrics across active sites, translating raw numbers into insights for near-term client work and long-term roadmap direction.
- Share craft across the team by mentoring associate designers, providing constructive feedback, modeling AI and developer collaboration, and feeding strategic product direction back to the Creative Director based on client insights.
Requirements
- 4 to 6 years of web and product design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating systems thinking and intentional brand application.
- Client-facing confidence to present work, defend design decisions, read the room, and incorporate feedback without losing craft.
- Expert Figma, including components, variants, Variables, design tokens, and library management.
- AI-native workflow, including prompting, iteration, evaluation, and the ability to judge when outputs are right or wrong.
- Ability to create near-production prototypes using AI-assisted tools to validate design before it reaches others in the process.
- Comfort evaluating code and front-end constraints, with the ability to discuss feasibility with developers even without writing production code.
- Responsive design expertise with accessibility and performance-conscious design, including WCAG AA+ familiarity.
- Systems mindset to design for the current client while enabling reuse across sites and products.
- Data-informed judgement to interpret analytics and translate them into decisions.
- Ownership in making confident calls, while clearly flagging exceptions.
