Job Description

The Creative Director serves as World Food Program USA’s senior creative strategist, leading and expanding the organization’s creative and content strategy in alignment with broader brand goals. The role oversees a creative team and shapes how audiences experience mission-driven content across digital, events, partnerships, and donor touchpoints.

Location & Employment Details

  • Location: Washington, DC (hybrid)
  • Salary: USD 129,900 - 134,900 per yearly

Role Overview

The Creative Director is responsible for guiding creative direction and growth of both creative and content strategy. This position supports brand consistency and aims to raise awareness about global hunger while engaging prospective and existing donors through highly engaging content and multi-channel campaigns. The role also builds cross-functional partnerships across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of creatives and copywriters, helping them become strong brand ambassadors.
  • Build a culture focused on innovation, collaboration, inclusiveness, and continuous improvement to develop an interconnected, performance-driven creative resource.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to execute multi-channel campaigns.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with cross-functional partners across external affairs, social media and advertising, development, and policy teams.
  • Manage vendor relationships supporting brand and creative work.
  • Own campaign planning, execution, measurement, and optimization.
  • Review and approve brand assets produced by the creative team to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Establish and consistently measure KPIs related to brand health, awareness, engagement, and audience growth, then use insights to guide strategic recommendations and brand investment decisions.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive creative content strategy aligned with the organization’s 5-year strategic plan.
  • Partner with external affairs, marketing, corporate, institutional/foundations, and celebrity partnerships to expand brand visibility and growth across digital, social, events, collaborations, merchandise, and other physical activations.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of comprehensive brand guidelines, including logos, voice, tone, and visual style, to support brand compliance.
  • Coordinate with World Food Programme counterparts to maintain style and messaging consistency.
  • Conduct market research and audience analysis to identify brand growth opportunities.
  • Oversee story-driven assets and bring the creative content strategy and portfolio to life, including a focus on developing the organization’s inaugural YouTube strategy to create a more human storytelling experience.
  • Oversee writing and editing for internal and external communications vehicles, including newsletters, emails, and print materials such as the World Food Program USA Annual Report.
  • Collaborate with external affairs and co-lead cross-functional multi-team creative brainstorms to support audience interest, engagement, donor acquisition, and revenue generation.
  • Apply knowledge of editorial and visual functions to oversee the creative studio.
  • Mentor the team to produce high-quality, SEO- and GEO-optimized content for wfpusa.org to increase website traffic, Share of Voice (SOV) content engagement, and related fundraising conversions.
  • Mentor and lead the team in designing impactful interactive digital products (websites, digital media, video, etc.) using design best practices and tech platforms; front-end development/UX/UI experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP is highly preferred.
  • Oversee the content and multimedia library.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, public relations, design, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience: 8–12+ years of experience in brand marketing, creative strategy, communications, or constituent experience.
  • Leadership: 4+ years of managing and leading a diverse team of talent.
  • Strong interest in building brands and deepening relationships with audiences, donors, and partner communities through creative content.
  • Experience leading integrated marketing campaigns and creative strategy.
  • Strong project and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated success managing creative teams and budgets.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional writing, grammar, and proofreading skills.
  • Highly organized self-starter with collaborative, efficient, and flexible working style.
  • Interest in humanitarian assistance, international development, or global hunger.
