Creative Director
Job Description
Render is seeking a Creative Director to steer brand evolution, establish cohesive brand systems, and guide a founding brand design team. This role demands strategic, craft-driven leadership that harmonizes production-grade credibility with the warmth developers value across all brand moments and surfaces.
Responsibilities
- Own Render's brand strategy and positioning. Collaborate with the Head of Design, product marketing, and executive stakeholders to define positioning, brand attributes, and the messaging framework, maintaining the balance between rigorous credibility and developer-friendly warmth that defined Render.
- Set and uphold the creative vision across all touchpoints. From the marketing site to conferences, internal gatherings, DevRel moments, social channels, and product interfaces, establish and enforce guidelines for visual identity, motion, illustration, voice, and tone to ensure every output meets the standard.
- Lead and grow the brand design team. Mentor and develop a founding group of senior brand designers and shape the team structure to scale with Render.
- Build brand as a system, not a collection of one-offs. Drive the brand toward documented, reusable systems—including guidelines, a versioned asset library, and a maturing marketing design system—while keeping brand and product design aligned as they evolve.
- Organize how brand work ships. Define priorities and delivery processes to maintain a high-quality bar amid fast launch velocity and competing demands.
- Collaborate with product, marketing, and engineering leadership on how the brand presents itself during major moments such as launches, events, fundraising, and the next generation of Render's product surfaces.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience as an Art Director or Creative Director, ideally within developer tools, infrastructure, SaaS, or another technical, credibility-driven category.
- Proven experience managing and cultivating creative talent. You have led designers, provided direct and actionable feedback, and fostered a team culture where strong people do their best work. Developing people is core to the role.
- Strategic range. A portfolio that demonstrates sharp brand thinking and the ability to set and defend a vision, with capacity to go deep on critical work.
- Exceptional craft and taste. A high standard of visual execution across digital, identity systems, and brand experiences; you recognize when work has not yet cleared the bar.
- Fluency in brand systems. Understanding of design systems and governance that maintain brand coherence as surface area and headcount grow.
- Strong cross-functional partnership skills. Ability to co-own positioning with product marketing, collaborate with product design on shared surfaces, and advocate for brand in leadership discussions.
- Credibility with a technical audience. Knowledge of what credibility looks like to developers and technical buyers, and a commitment to earning production-grade credibility.
- Leadership built on trust and clarity. A style that grows senior people and shapes direction collaboratively rather than through control.
Benefits
- Four weeks of paid vacation per year.
- Fourteen weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents to bond with a newborn, adoptee, or foster child, with a planned return process.
- Long-term disability, life insurance, and 401(k) plans.
- 100% employer-paid medical coverage, and 99% employer-paid dental and vision coverage for you and a dependent; FSAs and HSAs are available.
- Monthly stipend for wellness, mental health, and personal interests.
- Monthly subsidies for cell phone and internet.
