UI/UX Designer/Engineer

Altamira Technologies Corp. is seeking a UI/UX Designer/Engineer to support its National Space Intelligence Center (NSIC) customer by expanding and refining user experience (UX) processes for user-focused applications. The position emphasizes designing intuitive interfaces and workflows suited to deeply technical military and government requirements.

Role Focus

The core objective is to execute UX methodologies that result in user interfaces and workflows that are both intuitive and effective. The work is centered on improving the customer’s user experience through more robust UX processes for applications developed by Altamira.

Responsibilities

• Gather, interpret, and validate understanding of user and customer requirements
• Break down, frame, and analyze problems to be solved
• Collaborate with cross-functional developers to clarify problems and solutions and ensure shared team understanding
• Design user interfaces and interactivity solutions
• Communicate design specifications to graphic designers and developers using sketches, low-fidelity or notional wireframes, and related artifacts
• Document work, findings, and artifacts
• Work closely with development leads to synchronize and integrate UX and design cycles into feature development iterations
• Monitor and communicate new industry UX and design practices

Key Requirements

• Knowledge of UX processes and mindset to gather requirements, analyze a problem, abstractly solve it, and translate it into a user interface design
• Ability to build an abstract model using tools such as mind maps, cognitive models, and flow diagrams
• Ability to create rough, notional user interface designs including sketches, low-fidelity mockups, and wireframes for implementation by graphic designers and developers
• Strong and effective communication skills
• Assertive mindset to advocate for user needs while considering practical compromises needed to maintain development momentum

Education

A 4-year degree in User Experience Design, User Interface Design, Interaction Design, Software Development, or Human Factors.

Experience

Altamira values candidates who can explain their UX background regardless of discipline. The role expects the ability to describe experience in UX and how that background shaped the candidate’s current practice.

Work Environment and Technologies

This role supports UX process development for military and government software development and is conducted using Windows and Linux environments. A working knowledge of both Windows and Linux is a plus.
