Job Description

Mind Computing is hiring a full-time, 100% remote UI/UX Designer to support a project for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), applying Human Centered Design to deliver usable, accessible, user-centric applications with Section 508 compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, developers, testers, and stakeholders to turn business and technical requirements into effective UI/UX solutions
  • Develop research-oriented questions and use indirect user insights to guide design decisions when direct user access is limited
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes in Figma to communicate concepts and support development
  • Act as a UI/UX accessibility subject-matter resource, advising cross-functional teams on accessible design practices and Section 508 compliance
  • Embed accessibility and compliance requirements throughout the design process before production release
  • Review accessibility findings and provide clear, actionable guidance to identify and remediate Section 508 issues
  • Support accessibility testing, audits, and remediation by reviewing results, recommending design changes, and validating corrected implementations
  • Incorporate feedback from developers, testers, stakeholders, and users to improve designs iteratively in an Agile delivery environment
  • Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field
  • Proven experience as a UI/UX Designer with a portfolio that demonstrates accessible web or application design
  • Strong, practical understanding of Human Centered Design in complex, constraint-driven environments
  • Demonstrated experience designing accessible user interfaces and advising cross-functional teams on Section 508 compliance and remediation
  • Ability to translate accessibility and compliance requirements into actionable recommendations for team members with different levels of accessibility expertise
  • Collaboration skills to work with Business Analysts and stakeholders and translate research and user insights into practical design solutions
  • Proficiency in Figma and experience working within Agile development teams
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including explaining design and accessibility recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences

Additional Qualifications

  • Prior government/federal experience
  • Experience supporting VA, DHA, HHS, or other federal/government projects
  • Familiarity with VA Digital Service guidelines, USWDS, and federal accessibility standards and expectations
  • Experience supporting accessibility testing, audits, and remediation
  • Experience contributing to or working within a design system, including UI patterns, components, and documentation
  • Ability to obtain a government clearance
  • Familiarity with collaboration and documentation tools such as Miro, Mural, JIRA, and Confluence

Work Location & Requirements

  • Remote (100% remote)
  • Candidate must reside within the continental US
  • Full-time position

Screening / Notice

  • Selected candidates must complete fingerprinting at a government facility and undergo a background check as part of the hiring process
  • At this time, sponsorship is not available

Compensation: USD 75,000 - 85,000 per year
