Job Description

Mayo Clinic College of Medicine & Science is hiring a UI/UX Designer (hybrid) in Rochester, MN, combining remote flexibility with on-site collaboration. This full-time, exempt role supports meaningful digital experiences through user-centered design, accessibility-focused UI, and close partnership with UX research, content specialists, and front-end development.

Compensation: $85,467.20 to $128,252.80 per year. Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (80 hours per pay period).

What you’ll do

  • Serve as a key multidisciplinary designer across Mayo Clinic College of Medicine & Science digital environments, shaping user interface and experience through iterative prototype testing.
  • Collaborate with UX researchers to understand the needs of multiple audiences, then develop distinctive visual approaches and validate them through prototypes.
  • Partner with content specialists to create effective page layouts using established web components and patterns.
  • Iterate on component design and coordinate with front-end developers to align updates to revised specifications.
  • Contribute across the design lifecycle, including wireframing website layouts, creating mockups for multiple screen sizes, and producing UI documentation for developer hand-off.
  • Represent users by ensuring interfaces follow best practices across different device types and support accessibility requirements.
  • Use UX findings and brand identity to build design patterns that are visually appealing and improve the user experience.
  • Work with stakeholders to refine navigation schemes, interaction patterns, and digital storytelling.
  • Build familiarity with a component-based content management system, collaborating with content contributors to create engaging webpage layouts.
  • Develop and adapt front-end design specifications with attention to feasibility and performance constraints.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years of experience producing user interface designs with demonstrated impact.
  • Expert UI design methods including prototyping, interaction flow diagrams, wireframes, and interface specifications, with strong visual design acumen.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of modern digital and interaction design principles and trends.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to clearly articulate complex design problems and solutions.
  • Ability to address accessibility concerns for digital products, including optimization for assistive technologies.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS, and the basics of front-end web development.
  • Experience with content design and UX writing, including the basics of digital marketing, SEO, and content strategy.
  • Demonstrated empathy and deep understanding of the experiences of current and prospective learners.
  • Inclusive, accessible, user-centered mindset for each product.
  • Persuasive stakeholder communication tied to business objectives.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, emotional intelligence, and a desire to collaborate in a close-knit team to deliver high-quality products on a timely basis.
  • Plus: Health care or higher education experience.

Hybrid requirement: Combination of remote and on-site work. The individual must live within a 100 mile driving distance to the Rochester, MN Mayo Clinic campus.
