UI UX Designer
Job Description
A UI/UX Designer will own the vehicle touchscreen charging interfaces within the charging ecosystem, shaping map visualizations, routing experiences, and contributing to the design system. The position is based in Palo Alto, California.
Responsibilities
- Spearhead charging product design from discovery through launch, balancing UX research, competitive analysis, rapid prototyping, and visual design
- Design and refine in vehicle UI for Supercharging, third party DC fast chargers, and home or destination charging across international markets
- Create interactive Figma prototypes to validate concepts with users and communicate intent to engineers; motion design prototyping is a plus
- Collaborate with engineers to understand technical constraints and translate complex functionality into intuitive experiences
- Leverage customer interviews, analytics, and field data to inform decisions and measure real user performance
- Work across Charging Product, Vehicle Software, Energy Engineering, and Leadership to foster a culture of questions and context sharing
- Regularly present work to partners, stakeholders, and senior leaders; defend rationale and iterate based on feedback
- Contribute to and extend the design system, ensuring new UI aligns with vehicle interface standards
Requirements
- Degree in Graphic Design, UI/UX, Human-Computer Interaction, related field, or equivalent experience
- A portfolio that demonstrates creative thinking, range, and a modern minimalist taste; all candidates must submit a portfolio or personal website
- Strong experience in interaction design and prototyping for various form factors and interfaces
- Proficiency in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Jira, and Confluence
- Experience shipping products to millions of users
- Ability to handle ambiguity and iterate toward clarity and simplicity
- Previous experience designing for vehicle infotainment, maps, or complex data visualization is a plus
- Passion for sustainable electric vehicle charging and renewable energy

What to Expect
You will join the Energy Design team and own the vehicle touchscreen interface for charging globally, covering Supercharging, AC charging, and DC fast charging. The role involves shaping how drivers locate, navigate to, and interact with chargers, building map visualizations that surface optimal options, pricing, amenities, and network details, guiding users from route planning to plug-in.
Additionally, you may craft end-of-year narratives like Charging Passport to illustrate charging across home, work, and on the road. The goal is to distill the complexity of global charging infrastructure into fast, intuitive experiences that feel unmistakably Tesla. The Energy Design team works across Supercharging, Home Charging, Solar, Powerwall, and the Tesla App.
We are a small, fast-moving team that collaborates across the company to ship products reaching millions of users. We value designers who are versatile, adaptable, and comfortable navigating ambiguity. This role is based in Palo Alto, California.
Expected Compensation
The compensation range is USD 108,000 to 198,000 per year, plus cash and stock awards and benefits. The final offer may vary based on location, knowledge, skills, and experience, and the overall compensation package may include additional elements. Details will be provided with an employment offer.
