Senior User Interface Design Engineer
Job Description
Humana is hiring a Senior User Interface Design Engineer in Boston, MA to craft intuitive, high-trust digital experiences across clinical tools and care-facing platforms.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end UI design for assigned product verticals, from discovery through pixel-perfect delivery
- Drive workflow design, information architecture, and interface design for data-dense, human-in-the-loop clinical workflows
- Support and contribute to design systems, patterns, and scalable design standards
- Share design recommendations and rationale with stakeholders, incorporate feedback, and build alignment across teams
- Create interactive, high-fidelity prototypes to model complex interactions and validate user flows
- Help evolve how AI-assisted tools are incorporated into the design process as internal tooling access expands
- Plan and execute qualitative user research, usability testing, and feedback sessions with users and stakeholders
- Champion WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility and plain-language design principles, ensuring inclusive experiences across varying levels of digital and health literacy
- Design with sensitivity to privacy, patient trust, and regulatory requirements
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on product design experience (UI/UX) delivering digital products, web applications, or complex enterprise platforms from concept to launch
- Strong portfolio showing complex interfaces with clear visual hierarchy and clean execution for data-dense applications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Expert-level Figma skills, including auto-layout, tokens, component variables, and interactive prototyping
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution within established design system and standards
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, work through ambiguity, and maintain high design quality in a fast-paced, iterative environment
- Strong communication skills to articulate design decisions and discuss technical constraints and tradeoffs with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders
- Demonstrated success using design to improve business and customer outcomes (patient satisfaction, engagement, retention, or operational efficiency)
- AI fluency: understanding of in-product AI behavior (latency handling, confidence scoring, human-in-the-loop workflows) and interest in AI-assisted design tools

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience designing interfaces for complex data pipelines, dynamic real-time data, or decision-support tools

- Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40
Compensation
- Pay range: USD 97,900 - 133,500 per year
- Eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on company and/or individual performance
