Senior Product Designer

Unissant is seeking a Senior Product Designer for an onsite role in Herndon, VA supporting a Department of the Navy financial management training program. This position focuses on delivering human-centered digital design end-to-end, from discovery through delivery, with an emphasis on workflows, prototypes, design system ownership, accessibility, and support for user acceptance testing.

Salary: USD 150,000 - 190,000 per year. The role is based onsite, with minimal travel (up to 10%), and may include occasional trips to Government or University facilities.

What you’ll do

• Run discovery sessions with stakeholders and users to understand current processes, user needs, pain points, business rules, and desired future-state workflows.
• Turn requirements into user journeys, process flows, information architecture, wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity interface designs.
• Design intuitive experiences for data collection, workflow tracking, status visibility, review and approval, documentation, and reporting functions.
• Partner with business analysts and software engineers to keep designs feasible, complete, and aligned to functional and technical requirements.
• Conduct usability reviews and user feedback sessions, document findings, and refine designs based on results.
• Apply accessibility and responsive design practices in line with applicable requirements.
• Create design specifications, annotated mockups, and handoff materials that support implementation and testing.
• Support user acceptance testing, training materials, and iterative product improvements as needed.

What you bring

• 8+ years of relevant experience in product design, UX design, human-centered design, interaction design, visual design, or a related field.
• Experience designing web-based applications such as workflow tools, portals, dashboards, enterprise systems, or other complex digital solutions.
• Ability to produce user flows, wireframes, prototypes, mockups, and implementation-ready design specifications.
• Experience with user research, usability testing, heuristic evaluation, or other design validation activities.
• Working knowledge of modern UX/design tools including Figma, Miro, FigJam, Adobe XD, Sketch, or equivalent tools.
• Comfort collaborating with business stakeholders, analysts, developers, testers, and project managers in an iterative delivery environment.
• Familiarity with accessibility practices, including Section 508 compliance principles.
• United States citizenship and an active Top Secret (TS) security clearance are required.
• Relevant certifications in UX, human-centered design, accessibility, or agile delivery are preferred.

• Travel: Minimal travel, up to 10%; occasional travel to a Government or University facility may be required.

• Education: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred but not required. Candidates may qualify through additional progressive experience, military service, technical training, certifications, or demonstrated expertise in related disciplines.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication, ability to present proposals and performance data, comfortable interfacing across organizational levels, and capability to write clear and concise creative content in a highly confidential manner.
