Product Designer, Soft Goods - Outdoor Living
Job Description
Target is seeking a Product Designer for Soft Goods in Outdoor Living to transform concepts into CAD and hand sketches while aligning with merchant plans and pricing. This role centers on Owned Brand soft décor across categories, with a focus on Outdoor Living items such as toss pillows, cushions and rugs. Based in Minneapolis, MN with a hybrid work arrangement, you will collaborate across product teams to maintain cohesive, market-ready design direction.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a disciplined approach to workload, including timely communication with internal and external partners, managing deliverables and deadlines, conducting sample reviews, and preparing for milestone presentations.
- Support and drive concepts through all development stages, including research, material and technique selection, print, pattern and color application, and the creation of silhouettes and fabrications.
- Translate ideas for product direction across the soft goods categories using CAD and hand sketches, with emphasis on Outdoor Living Soft Goods (Toss Pillows, Cushions and Rugs, as needed).
- Foster brand cohesion by partnering with peers across the division to ensure continuity, maintain overall creative direction, align with merchant line plans, assortment strategies, and price points.
- Collaborate with Product Engineering, Technical Development and Sourcing teams to ideate and ensure designs meet quality requirements, vendor capabilities, and pricing goals.
- Support and be responsible for Owned Brand product brands and/or categories that achieve the overall product design strategy and merchant objectives.
Requirements
- A four-year Degree in Design (Product Design or Textile Design preferred)
- 3+ years of relevant experience in product development (home textile experience preferred)
- Strong aptitude for trend, design, and print and pattern; demonstrated high taste level, creative ability and proclivity for innovation
- Ability to respond to business objectives with creative, original and cost-effective design solutions
- Proficient in all Adobe Creative Suite programs
- Experience assimilating product feedback
- Highly collaborative and able to successfully work in a team environment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
