Job Description

As a Product Designer on Whatnot's Payments team, you will shape checkout, payouts, wallet, and incentive experiences for live commerce at scale. Collaborating with product managers, engineers, data scientists, and finance and compliance partners, you will craft trusted, high‑performing money movement across platforms. This role is based in New York, NY with remote options, and offers a salary range of USD 153,000 - 235,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end payment and value experiences across checkout, payouts, wallet, refunds, credits, coupons, gift cards, and emerging balance products on web and mobile.
  • Translate payment infrastructure, compliance, tax, and financial integrity requirements into intuitive product experiences.
  • Design both successful flows and recovery scenarios including failed payments, pending states, payment method switching, seller visibility, and resolution.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and polished interfaces for complex, high-stakes money movement challenges.
  • Unify fragmented payment experiences across live commerce, marketplace, tips, offers, and other purchase surfaces.
  • Use data, research, and experimentation to improve conversion, reduce payment friction, and boost buyer and seller confidence.
  • Contribute to the design system while championing accessibility, inclusivity, and scalable global patterns.
  • Design with live shopping constraints in mind, prioritizing speed, clarity, and trust across auctions, flash sales, subscriptions, and other high-throughput moments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of product design experience with a portfolio that demonstrates shipped work.
  • Strong interaction design and systems thinking skills, able to untangle complex flows and design for edge cases.
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Protopie, Framer, and similar.
  • Solid understanding of UX principles and methods, including user research, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with cross‑functional teams.
  • Proven experience designing zero‑to‑one products or new platforms, thriving in ambiguity and defining new product spaces.
  • Experience in ecommerce, marketplace platforms, or supply chain contexts is a plus.
