Job Description

As a Product Designer II on Microsoft’s Windows Design team, you’ll help shape end-to-end design work for moderately complex product areas. The role combines visual design, experience design, and storytelling, with an emphasis on delivering holistic customer experiences using frontier AI tools.

This position is based in Redmond, WA (onsite) and supports a design craft that spans problem definition, prototyping, and delivery, working in close partnership with Product Management and Engineering.

What you’ll do

  • Own end-to-end design execution for moderately complex product areas, covering problem definition, high-fidelity design, prototyping, and delivery with minimal oversight.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management and Engineering to develop solutions that are feasible, coherent, and aligned with product strategy while maintaining a high bar for craft across disciplines.
  • Use frontier AI tools (including AI-assisted research synthesis, ideation, prototyping, and content generation) to improve the speed, quality, and impact of design outcomes.
  • Turn qualitative and quantitative research into actionable design improvements, iterating through user feedback, experimentation, and product metrics.
  • Create and test prototypes from low- to high-fidelity to validate concepts, reduce risk in decision-making, and clearly communicate intent to partners and stakeholders.
  • Build clear design narratives that explain the WHAT, WHY, and HOW, connecting design decisions to user needs and business outcomes.
  • Strengthen team culture by participating in critiques and team rituals, and collaborating with openness to learning and growth.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or a related field, plus 3+ years of experience in product or service design.
  • OR equivalent experience, such as demonstrated product or service design work or using design thinking to solve problems.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements for the role.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: successful completion is required upon hire/transfer and again every two years thereafter.
  • A portfolio showing strong design foundations, including well-crafted UI, clear layouts, basic systems thinking, and the ability to explain design decisions and tradeoffs.
  • Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools, plus AI-powered creation technologies, including Figma, prototyping/vibe-coding platforms, and frontier AI technologies used to accelerate research, ideation, prototyping, content creation, accessibility reviews, and experimentation.
  • A solid interaction design and UX foundation, including usability, accessibility, and inclusive design best practices.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to present work clearly and incorporate feedback constructively.

  • Figma
  • Prototyping/vibe-coding platforms
