Product Designer

Embedding VC is building a new product and software engineering team, and this Product Designer role is an early hire focused on shaping the user experience from day one. The work spans web and mobile, includes building a design system from the ground up, and requires tight collaboration with engineers to ship, validate, and iterate.

This is an onsite role based in Mountain View, CA, with a salary range of USD 120,000 - 170,000 per year. The position calls for at least 1 years of relevant experience.

What you’ll do

• Own end-to-end product design for web and mobile, covering discovery, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and polished UI.
• Frame problems before jumping to solutions by talking to users, studying how they work, and challenging requirements when there is a better approach.
• Build the design system from scratch, including foundations such as color, type, spacing, iconography, tokens, and a shared component library across products.
• Create consistent experiences across products and platforms so new work starts from the system rather than from scratch.
• Partner with engineers to ship by prototyping quickly, handing off clearly, and reviewing implementations to maintain quality.
• Validate decisions using research, usability testing, and product data, then improve what is live.
• Help define team working patterns as the product grows, including design reviews, critique, and the processes needed for a growing team.

What you bring

• 1 - 4 years of experience in UI/UX design or a related role, with shipped work you can walk through.
• A portfolio that demonstrates web and mobile product design, including responsive web and native iOS/Android patterns.
• Strong UX fundamentals in areas like information architecture, interaction design, user flows, and usability.
• Strong visual craft with attention to layout, typography, hierarchy, and detail.
• Clear examples of systems thinking, such as reusable components, patterns, or a design system you built or contributed to.
• Fluency in Figma and comfort with rapid prototyping.
• Ability to explain and defend design decisions with clear written and spoken English to engineers and stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience as an early or founding designer at a startup or on a new team.
• Experience with design tokens, theming, and accessibility standards (WCAG).
• Ability to prototype in code (HTML/CSS, React) or comfort using AI tools in the design workflow.
• Experience designing data-dense or workflow-heavy tools such as dashboards, internal tools, marketplaces, or B2B platforms.
• Background in AI products, data platforms, or work involving remote expert contributors.
