Principal Product Designer, Design Systems

Microsoft Advertising Advertiser UXD is seeking a Principal Product Designer, Design Systems to build and evolve the MAI Monetization Design System and an AI-native tooling suite including Vibe Kit and Vibe Studio. The role is focused on system-level design, advancing adoption with engineering, and raising the quality bar as the system becomes machine-readable.

Responsibilities

• Design, document, and evolve core components and patterns that make up the design system.
• Lead adoption and migration efforts in partnership with engineering teams.
• Contribute to Vibe Kit by creating and improving skills, standards, context files, and Evals, including expanding adoption beyond design into PM and engineering.
• Shape Vibe Studio workflows by prototyping, testing, and refining how designers move from intent to working product.
• Collaborate with AI UX engineering efforts to enable the system to be machine-readable, not only human-readable.
• Set and uphold the quality bar by auditing usage, critiquing output, and closing the gap between specification and shipped results.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or a related field AND 6+ years of experience working in product or service design.
• OR Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or a related field AND 8+ years of experience working in product or service design.
• OR equivalent experience (for example, demonstrated experience working in product or service design, or using design thinking to solve problems).

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or a related field AND 8+ years of experience working in product or service design.
• OR Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or a related field AND 12+ years of experience working in product or service design.
• OR equivalent experience (for example, demonstrated experience working in product or service design, or using design thinking to solve problems).
• Hands-on design systems experience, including components, tokens, and documentation.
• Demonstrated experience partnering closely with engineering teams.
• Solid AI acumen and lived experience building AI tooling for designing with AI.
• Experience with Fluent or other large enterprise design systems.
• Experience with React or AI-assisted coding tools.
• Background in advertising, B2B, or data-dense tooling.
• Experience building internal tools or developer/designer experience products.
• Demonstrated interest in AI as a design material, not only a feature.
• Portfolio demonstrating systems-level design work (components, patterns, or tooling).
• Solid written communication, with standards and documentation as first-class deliverables.
• Ability to prototype in code or with AI-assisted tools.

Salary: USD 142,800 - 304,200 per year.
