Job Description

The Market/Communication Specialist II, titled Graphic Design Coordinator, supports Bluegrass Community & Technical College within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System by delivering creative and web services, leading graphic design and motion graphics, and upholding a consistent brand image across all visual media. This onsite role, based in Lexington, Kentucky, reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Public Relations, Marketing and Admissions. Salary is positioned between USD 4,014 and 5,017 per month.

Job Summary

The Graphic Design Coordinator provides creative and web services to the college community, guiding graphic design and motion graphics efforts while promoting a cohesive brand voice across all communications. The role encompasses concept development, layout for print and digital publications, and collaboration with clients to produce production-ready materials.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the college's graphic designer, translating client needs into original artwork for digital and print media.
  • Provide concept and production design for print, social media, and marketing collateral; collaborate to develop workable production pieces, supply proofs, and submit jobs to meet tight deadlines.
  • Create large-scale projects and marketing materials such as Advisory and Foundation Board reports, media guides, digital forms, newsletters, external community publications, and campaigns used for public information and recruitment; design web graphics, headers, and ads for digital use and college websites.
  • Assist the Creative Services Coordinator and Digital Marketing Coordinator with processing and editing photography; organize, catalog, and tag photos on SharePoint, Teams, and Flickr as needed.
  • Produce print-ready and web-ready files from existing designs and new concepts; prepare drafts based on assigned work.
  • Act as department liaison for project specifications, required materials, and deadlines; coordinate with outside vendors for file setup, proofs, and approvals.
  • Update and maintain the graphic archive and libraries for use by Marketing and other college staff.
  • Develop procedures, processes, schedules, and deadlines to ensure timely, efficient, and cost-effective production of high-quality graphic design.
  • Supervise Graphic Assistant student workers and develop branded templates for quick, consistent outputs recognizable as BCTC materials.
  • Provide design support and leadership to all college marketing personnel; apply brand guidelines across communications.
  • Contribute to the broader college community by assisting with brand guideline application throughout communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent, with two years of relevant experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Digital imaging, offset and digital printing processes
  • Design concepts including color, balance, fonts, and layout
  • Branding concepts
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office products
  • Experience creating a diverse range of marketing materials and publications, and producing visual content for the web and social media
  • Knowledge of video production and editing is a plus
  • Working knowledge of HTML for websites, email, and design best practices
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Creative problem-solving abilities

Additional Skills

  • High proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Competency in photography shooting, composition, and editing
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet target deadlines while adhering to the brand style guide and maintaining attention to detail
  • Online portfolio and/or samples of graphic design work
