Lead UI/UX Designer

This contract role supports a Transit Digital Experience team at Raj Technologies Inc, focused on improving the digital rider experience across bus and subway services. The position combines UX strategy, design systems, user-centered design, and cross-functional collaboration in a hybrid workflow.

Location and Work Arrangement

• Location: New York, NY (hybrid)
• Onsite schedule: 3 days onsite / 2 days remote per week
• Onsite address: 2 Broadway, New York, NY 10004
• Expected hours: 37.5 per week

Role Summary

As the Senior UI/UX Designer, you will improve digital rider experiences by supporting UX strategy for complex digital products and mobile applications. You will also contribute to design system development, strengthen user-centered design practices, and coordinate with product, engineering, research, and creative partners to deliver consistent, well-tested experiences across transit services.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable design systems and style guides to support consistency across digital platforms and transit-related signage.
• Define and drive UX strategy for complex digital products and mobile applications.
• Partner with UX Research (UXR) teams to learn rider needs, behaviors, and pain points.
• Set up continuous user feedback loops to improve the rider experience over time.
• Champion user-centered design practices across the product development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, UX Researchers, Creative teams, and other stakeholders.
• Balance user needs, business objectives, technical considerations, and brand standards in design decisions.
• Present design concepts, recommendations, and research findings to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
• Establish and document UX processes, standards, and best practices.
• Implement user testing and quality-control measures.
• Support consistent design implementation across complex digital products.

Requirements

• 12+ years of professional UX design experience, including significant experience designing mobile applications.
• Proven experience leading UX initiatives for complex digital products.
• Strong experience developing and working with design systems.
• Experience working in Agile development environments.
• Proficiency with modern UX/UI design and prototyping tools.
• Strong visual design skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to advocate for and implement user-centered design principles.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in complex, cross-functional environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within the transportation, transit, mobility, or related industry.
• Knowledge of digital accessibility standards and guidelines.

• Pay: USD $60.00 - $70.00 per hour
