Job Description

OPTiMO IT is looking for a Junior Digital Designer to support the evolution of partners’ digital products and creative initiatives. This role focuses on user-centered, accessible UX/UI design work, with direction from senior designers and close collaboration across design, development, QA, and stakeholder teams.

What you’ll do

  • Work within a user-centered design approach under guidance from senior designers.
  • Assist in producing UX/UI deliverables, moving from early concepts to high-fidelity design.
  • Collaborate with designers, developers, QA, and stakeholders throughout the design process.
  • Apply the design direction shared by members of the Senior Design team.
  • Iterate on designs based on feedback, maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Follow established design systems, style guides, and accessibility standards.
  • Support visual storytelling by assisting with PowerPoint decks.
  • Create and refine wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs under senior guidance.
  • Assist with user research activities, usability testing, and synthesis.
  • Use accessibility best practices aligned with Section 508 and WCAG standards.
  • Participate in design reviews, critiques, and collaborative workshops.
  • Own assigned design tasks and drive them to completion with support from senior team members when needed.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and contribute ideas during team discussions and reviews.
  • Communicate design decisions, questions, and recommendations clearly to teammates and stakeholders.

What you’ll need

  • U.S. Citizen status.
  • Ability to obtain a Federal Public Trust clearance.
  • 1–4 years of UX/UI experience.
  • A portfolio required.
  • Familiarity with Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud (Adobe CC), or similar tools.
  • Understanding of responsive design, usability principles, and accessibility principles.
  • Basic understanding of user research methodologies and usability testing.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn new tools, processes, and technologies.
  • Comfort asking questions, seeking clarification, and participating in collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently, manage assigned tasks, and proactively communicate progress and blockers.
  • Receptiveness to feedback and the ability to apply it to improve designs and professional growth.

Additional USPS requirements

  • United States citizen, permanent resident, or citizen of American Samoa or other U.S. territory
  • Recent employment history
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and medical assessment
  • Residency requirement for background checks
  • Must be registered with Selective Service if applicable

Preferred qualifications

  • UX/UI, HCI, or a design-related education
  • Exposure to Agile/SCRUM
  • Familiarity with USWDS, 18F, and iOS/Android standards
  • Awareness of Section 508 / WCAG standards
  • Coding and/or HTML/CSS/JS experience is an asset
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator is required
  • Experience with Figma and/or Adobe XD for digital product and interface design
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as InDesign, Acrobat, Premiere Pro, After Effects, or similar creative tools
  • Experience creating and editing presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, including visual storytelling, layout design, and presentation development
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Understanding of responsive design, usability, accessibility, and user-centered design principles
