Founding Product Designer

Avallon is building a claims workspace where customer-facing experiences and operational workflows have to work reliably in real time. As a founding design leader, you will take ownership of the end-to-end product experience, shaping how people understand the system, how they move through it, and how agent capabilities translate into tools operators can rely on every day.

Role focus

• Own every surface a customer touches across the claims workspace and related workflows.
• Turn an agent platform into a usable system people can work within.
• Design the interaction model for agents doing real work, including how users experience those actions while the system runs.
• Ship the work and bring design through to production.
• Find and measure friction so the experience improves based on what operators encounter.
• Set the bar for future design practice within the product.

What you bring

• 5+ years designing software, with experience owning work end-to-end.
• A portfolio showing depth in dense, technical software that fits an operator’s day-to-day use for about six hours.
• A hands-on approach: you sit with the person doing the job, observe confusion in context, and update the design rather than defending it.
• High agency in a small environment, where nobody assigns tasks and there is no design team to rely on.
• Based in NYC and excited to work onsite.

Nice to have

• Experience in insurance, claims, healthcare, or other compliance-heavy operational domains.
• Designed for AI products and have opinions about citations, confidence, and human-in-the-loop flows.
• Experience with brand and visual identity work.
• Early-stage startup experience, especially as the first hire in a function.

Compensation and location

• Location: New York, NY (onsite)
• Experience: 5+ years
• Salary: USD 170,000 - 220,000 per year
