Job Description
The Senior Web Designer/Developer (contingent 034) role at Systems Products and Solutions, Inc. centers on shaping, building, and sustaining web assets across both public-facing and internal platforms within a DoD-focused environment. Based at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD with remote flexibility, this trusted leadership position combines full-stack development with UX leadership, cybersecurity and accessibility compliance, and a data-driven approach to site improvement.
Responsibilities
- Extensive proficiency in web programming, server operations, and building custom applications.
- Design, develop, and maintain tailor-made websites and applications, including projects that are not form-driven and require advanced programming across HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Python, PHP, and SQL.
- Create and integrate front-end interfaces with back-end capabilities across multiple platforms to support both public and internal sites.
- Offer limited graphics support for SharePoint and other internal content management systems.
- Use analytics and monitoring tools to assess site performance and user behavior, delivering data-driven recommendations to enhance usability and experience.
- Develop and support event registration and information sites with mission-specific features.
- Ensure adherence to DoD and Army cybersecurity and accessibility standards in all web assets.
- Produce technical documentation and configuration guidelines related to web security, backup procedures, and overall site architecture.
- Provide backup support for digital and social media platforms, maintaining messaging alignment with web content strategies.
- Offer backup support for other graphics-related tasks, including event photography and awards production.
- Oversee all aspects of web design projects, including creative direction, timelines, collaboration with developers, user experience, and brand consistency; bring advanced skills in responsive design, wireframing, and visual design.
- Lead bi-annual major design updates to the website, incorporating 3D models and other interactive technology, with extensive experience in modern web design and responsive principles.
- Apply a strong understanding of UX design methodologies.
- Maintain excellent visual design skills and meticulous attention to detail; proficient with Adobe Creative Suite and related tools.
- Operate within environments including UNIX and Windows NT, with knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
- Support other developers with day-to-day operations and site maintenance, including security, configuration changes, and backups.
- Communicate design concepts effectively with stakeholders through clear presentation and collaboration.
- Maintain awareness of accessibility guidelines and web design best practices.
Requirements
- Ability to obtain and retain a Secret security clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Graphic Design, Computer Information Systems, or Web Design.
- At least 10 years of experience covering conceptualization, layout, typography, photography, illustration, web design and animation, production, and prepress; plus 5+ years of professional web development/coding using Photoshop, Dreamweaver, PowerPoint and related tools, along with HTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XML.
- Alternatively, an Associate degree with 12+ years in the fields of Computer Science, Software Development, Graphic Design, Computer Information Systems, or Web Design, with additional years of experience able to substitute for degree requirements.
- Familiarity with UNIX and Windows NT operating systems and TCP/IP networking.
- Proficiency with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, PowerPoint and other design tools, as well as HTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XML.
- Awareness of accessibility guidelines and best practices in web design.
- Strong communication and presentation skills to effectively convey design ideas.
