This onsite role in San Diego, CA blends strong conceptual thinking with high craft standards, with accountability spanning client delivery, business development support, and people or practice development.

You will also work in an environment where AI is actively used to accelerate concepting, iteration, and production, while documenting how those tools change the way visual design is practiced.

What you’ll do

  • Contribute to and help shape visual design direction on internal or client engagements, supporting quality, aesthetic cohesion, and delivery against project timelines.
  • Translate briefs, brand strategy, and audience insights into compelling visual executions, strengthening the ability to develop and defend an original visual point of view.
  • Create high-quality visual design work across brand identities, design systems, typography, motion, illustration, and digital experiences, with a strong command of craft and detail.
  • Operate in a hands-on, self-directed way by owning your workstream and delivering production-ready output with minimal redirection.
  • Use AI tools actively in your workflow to speed up concepting, iteration, and production, and contribute to the team’s evolving AI-enabled ways of working.
  • Join client and stakeholder conversations confidently by clearly communicating design rationale and building presence as a trusted creative voice.
  • Document and share how AI tools affect your workflow to support the practice’s evolving understanding of AI-enabled visual design.
  • Support proposals and case studies by contributing project work, process documentation, and design narratives that highlight visual design capabilities.
  • Stay aware of internal and client needs to flag opportunities for deeper work or expanded scope to your lead.
  • Provide informal mentorship to junior team members by sharing feedback, creative references, and ways of working that support growth.
  • Participate as an engaged member of the Visual Design Craft community through shared resources, community discussions, and ongoing discipline development.

What you bring

  • 5+ years of experience in visual design across a range of industries, brand types, platforms, and visual contexts.
  • Experience delivering visual design engagements end-to-end, from creative concepting and visual strategy through production-ready outcomes.
  • Portfolio work spanning brand identities, design systems, typography, motion, illustration, and digital UI that demonstrates a strong and developing visual voice.
  • Ability to produce high-fidelity deliverables with attention to detail, including pixel-perfect outputs and developer-ready specifications.
  • Experience giving feedback and providing informal guidance to junior designers, supporting their craft and creative confidence.
  • Comfort working in agile and cross-functional environments with product designers, product managers, engineers, and strategists.
  • Grounding in UX principles that informs visual design choices while expressing a coherent brand viewpoint.
  • Experience contributing to scalable design systems that maintain visual consistency across products, platforms, and channels.
  • Comfort using AI tools in visual design, including concept generation, mood-boarding, rapid iteration, and openness to evolving AI-enabled ways of working.
  • Recent hands-on experience with tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and relevant motion, illustration, or AI design tools.
