UI / UX Designer

York Space Systems is hiring an early-career UI/UX Designer to help shape the user experience of a modern web-based application used for spacecraft constellation monitoring and control.

Responsibilities

• Convert customer and operator requirements into clear, intuitive interface designs
• Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes that align with and strengthen an existing design system
• Work closely with designers, product managers, developers, and mission operators to refine requirements and incorporate feedback
• Maintain and organize design assets and documentation, including recording design decisions
• Participate in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• 1-2 years of UI/UX design experience (including internships and academic or personal projects)
• Proficiency with Figma, including components, auto-layout, and design system workflows
• Experience producing wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes
• Experience defining user flows and spotting friction points
• Motivation to learn, iterate, and improve
• Strong verbal and written communication with interpersonal skills for collaborative teamwork
• Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to proactively seek information and guidance when requirements are vague or unclear
• Ability to obtain and hold a security clearance

• Design portfolio showing UI/UX work from prior projects, internships, or academic work

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing dark mode exclusive applications
• Experience designing for colorblind accessibility
• Familiarity with frontend development concepts such as component-based architecture or responsive layout

Location: Laurel, MD (hybrid)

Salary: USD 50,000 - 90,000 per year

Minimum experience: 1 year
