Staff Product Designer, Agentic Coding
Job Description
Databricks is building Omnigent, its platform for building, composing, governing, and sharing AI coding agents, and is looking for a Staff Product Designer (IC design lead) in Mountain View, CA to help shape how these agents feel to use in real workflows. This role focuses on end-to-end desktop and mobile UX for live agent sessions, with particular attention to trust and human-in-the-loop interaction patterns across complex, high-density orchestration.
What you’ll own
- Own the desktop and mobile experience for live agent sessions end to end, from strategy and interaction models to visual polish and shipped detail.
- Design desktop interactions for complex orchestration workflows, and shape mobile moments for lightweight monitoring, review, approval, and intervention.
- Invent and refine the interaction language for agentic work, including real-time multi-agent sessions, watch/co-drive/fork flows, human-in-the-loop approvals, agent status and transparency, and error and recovery states that support trust.
- Define durable UX principles and interaction frameworks for collaboration, approvals, observability, and recovery that can be reused across Omnigent surfaces.
- Drive cross-platform consistency through a strong, scalable design system spanning desktop and mobile.
How you’ll work
- Design directly in the codebase for well-scoped changes, partnering with engineers to ship real improvements rather than delivering static mocks.
- Use prototypes as a primary thinking tool by building interactive prototypes to explore, de-risk, and align the team on direction for large, vague problems.
- Ground decisions in evidence by using research instincts and real usage to stress-test ideas and determine what to build next.
What you bring
- Builder-designer experience working fluently with AI tools, including making small design changes directly in a codebase and using prototypes and agents to tackle larger ambiguous problems, with regular use of AI tools in your own design and build workflow.
- A portfolio demonstrating strong end-to-end craft across interaction design, visual/UI polish, and design-systems thinking, ideally in developer tools, AI/ML products, enterprise software, or other products for technical users.
- Staff-level scope and impact, including a track record of shipping complex, high-quality developer products and leading design direction on hard problems.
- Self-directed working style with comfort in ambiguity, helping shape product direction when the path is not yet defined.
- A collaborative approach that raises the bar through high-quality critique, clear decision-making, and tight partnership with engineering and product.
Nice to have
- Experience designing coding tools, IDEs, agent frameworks, or developer platforms.
- Familiarity with multi-agent systems, LLM harnesses, or governance/observability tooling.
