Senior Product Designer

SonarSource is building software for the future, and the Product Design team is looking for a seasoned Senior Product Designer to help shape experiences for both agentic and human users. In this onsite role in San Mateo, CA, you will lead design work for a squad while partnering closely with Product Management and Engineering to bring AI into the design workflow.

This position focuses on practical ownership: setting design direction, raising standards for craft and strategy, and evolving how the team collaborates and delivers. You will also work daily with a variety of AI tools and models, applying them directly to real product work.

What you will do

• Own and lead product design across your squad, defining design direction and raising the bar for craft, quality, and strategic thinking.
• Design for AI agents as first-class users.
• Integrate AI into every stage of your design workflow, using it to accelerate research synthesis, automate repetitive tasks, and produce high-fidelity prototypes more efficiently.
• Listen to users and customers to understand their needs and guide design decisions.
• Build a deep understanding of the SDLC and how to enable developers and AI agents to produce better quality software.
• Collaborate with other product designers to maintain a cohesive information architecture and a unified experience across the product platform.
• Align with your product manager on problem definition and provide design solutions throughout end-to-end development.
• Partner early with engineering teams to vet technical feasibility and uncover edge cases.
• Mentor other designers through critique, pairing, and feedback, investing in team growth and raising collective craft.
• Shape and advance the Product Design team’s processes, tools, and collaborative frameworks with genuine ownership of their evolution.
• Experiment daily with AI tools and models while doing real work.

What you bring

• Experience organizing complex environments into logical structures and mapping user journeys to minimize friction.
• Curiosity and practical experience using AI tools to accelerate research, ideation, and design velocity.
• A self-starter mindset focused on identifying UX gaps and proposing structural improvements.
• Ability to explain design decisions and the rationale behind them to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Comfort in a cross-functional environment where feedback is shared openly and success is treated as a team effort.
• A delivery mindset.
• Experience driving design strategy and establishing patterns that scale beyond your immediate squad, influencing the broader product and design organization.
• Familiarity with software development workflows and the SDLC, or a background in computer science. Production code writing is not required, but working alongside engineers who do is.
• Experience designing AI workflows or agent-driven experiences is a strong plus and may shorten the onboarding ramp.

Compensation

US base salary range: $175,000 – $250,000 USD per year for this full-time position, plus other benefits.
