Job Description

General Motors is seeking a Senior In-Vehicle Product Designer to lead the management of UI libraries and ensure scalable components across programs and regions, while upholding brand integrity and adherence to system-wide principles. Based in Warren, MI with a hybrid work model, this role collaborates closely with product, engineering, and QA teams to translate complex display configurations and vehicle-generation considerations into consistent user interfaces. The position emphasizes governance, cross-functional alignment, and a big-picture approach to design language.

Responsibilities

  • Manage UI libraries and templates.
  • Ensure UI components are scalable across programs, regions, and display scopes.
  • Communicate library updates and changes to relevant teams.
  • Review new features and resources with designers to ensure quality and consistency in execution.
  • Flag and resolve deviations from design system standards in collaboration with governance.
  • Champion UI excellence and advocate for high-quality delivery and implementation.
  • Take a big-picture view to identify consistency gaps across apps, patterns, and design language.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and QA teams to ensure UI quality and alignment.
  • Support cross-functional alignment efforts to maintain a unified design language.
  • Act as a program and generation expert, with deep understanding of display configuration, framework, and historical decisions across vehicle generations.
  • Support nuanced program requirements and provide guidance on implementation and compliance considerations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in product design, UX/UI, or design systems.
  • Formal training with a degree in Interface Design, Visual Design or related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
  • Experience building and maintaining design systems in Figma, including component architecture, variants, and documentation.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams to ensure design-to-code alignment.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills across disciplines.
  • Proficiency with industry standard design tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
