Product Designer
Job Description
Arconic is hiring a Product Designer for its Kawneer Business team in Alpharetta, GA. The role centers on design ownership for new fenestration products, along with redesigns and enhancements to existing product lines, working closely with engineering, drafting, technical authors, and manufacturing partners.
Role Overview
As a key member of the New Product Development team, you will lead design activities across the full product lifecycle for fenestration systems. This includes concept development, prototyping, and the creation of engineering documentation that supports product engineering, compliance, and customer-facing technical literature.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a key member of the New Product Development team.
- Lead design efforts for the development and enhancement of fenestration systems.
- Collaborate with other Product Designers on assigned projects.
- Create conceptual designs, prototypes, and final product engineering documentation.
- Assist in developing Technical Brief(s) to support compliance with project definitions.
- Coordinate engineering support documentation with the Drafting team.
- Work with Technical Authors and Illustrators to develop technical literature documentation, including Installation Instructions and other customer-facing materials.
- Create and generate engineering change orders.
- Collaborate with product manufacturing, procurement, and outside suppliers.
- Participate in, and oversee, test unit installation and product testing, following the company EHS policy. Hands-on activities may include kneeling, squatting, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 40 lbs, and using a ladder.
- Support an expected overnight travel requirement of 25% to 30%, which could occur for several weeks.
- Collaborate with product manufacturing and apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
Minimum Requirements
- Associate degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited institution, or a minimum of 2 years of experience as a designer in the building or construction industry.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in product design.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with 3D modeling in Inventor and 2 years of experience with 2D drafting in AutoCAD.
- Experience with Autodesk Vault environment.
- Experience with the MS Office suite.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility is required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Skills and Additional Notes
- Competency modeling in Inventor and drafting in AutoCAD.
- Experience creating new products based on market needs, systems design, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to work on projects containing multiple unknown elements and varied aspects of conceptual design.
- Capacity to analyze and develop solutions for technical problems.
- Ability to estimate design effort for specific tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate in a team environment with Designers, Drafters, and Technical Authors.
- Ability to work according to industry engineering standards, company-specific work instructions, and department procedures.
- Proven design creativity record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, structural, or civil engineering, or architecture.
- 3 years or more of experience designing windows, doors, curtain wall, or storefront systems.
- Knowledge of fenestration industry codes and standards.
- Knowledge of thermal simulations using Therm software.
- Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using Inventor or other software.

Work Location and Travel
This position is onsite in Norcross, GA 30092. Overnight travel is expected at 25% to 30%, potentially for multiple weeks.
