Job Description

Uber is seeking a Lead Product Designer for the Earner design team to help shape the platform Earners use to plan and move through their day. This is a 0-to-1 role focused on human-centered, voice-first, and cross-touchpoint design, from early research through production-ready deliverables.

Role Overview

In this position, you will lead the design of new experiences and interaction patterns, including conversational and voice interactions for the earner assistant. You will work across mobile and other interface surfaces, translate logistical and technical systems into clear user flows, and contribute to a consistent design language across global platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead human-centered experience design for high-impact domains, defining new interaction patterns and service models where none exist today, including voice-first experiences.
  • Own design problems end-to-end, from early-stage research and conceptual wireframes to high-fidelity prototypes and final production-ready assets.
  • Design conversational and voice interactions for the earner assistant to help Earners plan and move through their day hands-free.
  • Partner as a key thought leader with Product, Engineering, and Operations to define requirements and shape the strategic roadmap.
  • Design across digital and physical touchpoints, translating complex logistical and technical systems into intuitive flows for mobile, tablet, foldable devices, and voice interfaces.
  • Maintain and evolve Uber’s design language by contributing to shared systems and foundational patterns, including universal systems such as loading and latency.
  • Prototype rapidly to test hypotheses and validate ideas early, iterating with input from data and user research to improve quality and trustworthiness.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional product design experience, including a track record of shipping successful digital products for mobile and web.
  • A portfolio demonstrating high-quality design work, strong systems thinking, and user-centered design principles.
  • Proficiency with Figma and a range of prototyping tools to bring complex ideas to life.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity and lead design direction in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, including the ability to explain design rationale to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience designing for multiple form factors and input methods, including mobile, tablet, foldable devices, or voice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing AI-powered or LLM-driven product experiences, including handling uncertainty, errors, and trust in AI-generated content.
  • Experience designing conversational or voice user interfaces (VUI), including structuring a natural back-and-forth voice interaction.
  • Experience in frontier or complex domains such as Autonomous Systems, AdTech, Fintech, or Enterprise/Operational tools.
  • Experience designing across physical and digital touchpoints, including geospatial or location-aware systems.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with user researchers and data scientists to drive experimentation and A/B testing.
  • Advanced degree in HCI, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Experience building and implementing components within a global, scalable design system.
