Lead Motion Designer
Job Description
Pura is hiring a Lead Motion Designer to set and deliver the company’s motion identity across product, app, website, and brand.
Responsibilities
- Act as the sole motion design expert, owning the brand motion identity and serving as the definitive voice for how motion looks, feels, and behaves across touchpoints
- Ensure Pura’s Motion Principles are applied consistently across UX, website, app, and brand
- Own and evolve Pura’s cross-platform motion design system, translating principles into a componentized, reusable library
- Design and prototype micro-interactions, screen transitions, onboarding sequences, and moment-of-delight animations for mobile and web
- Lead ambitious, high-craft motion work that raises the standard across the organization
- Partner with Brand to extend the motion language into marketing, social, campaigns, and video while maintaining one consistent motion identity
- Support Brand on high-impact motion needs, including major campaigns, launches, and brand moments
- Integrate high-fidelity 3D renders of Pura products (including diffusers and fragrances) into motion experiences when needed
- Define motion principles, timing and easing standards, and choreography guidelines; document and maintain a scalable motion style guide and token system
- Collaborate closely with iOS, Android, and web engineers to implement animations accurately, ensuring what’s built matches motion designs precisely using formats such as Lottie and Rive or native animation APIs
- Create high-fidelity animated prototypes (Principle, ProtoPie, Figma, After Effects) to communicate interaction intent to engineering and stakeholders
- Mentor other designers in motion fundamentals to increase team fluency in animation
- Evaluate and recommend motion tooling, plugins, and workflows to improve in-house production efficiency
- Operate as Pura’s in-house alternative to agency motion work, including scoping and executing ambitious motion projects internally
- When needed, flex into supporting UX design on core product projects using broader design fundamentals beyond motion
Requirements
- 10–12 years of professional motion design experience, including a proven track record leading digital product or UX motion at a consumer tech company (not solely broadcast, film, or marketing motion)
- Advanced 3D rendering and animation skills (e.g., Cinema 4D, Blender), required for producing dimensional, high-production-value renderings of products
- Deep expertise in After Effects and fluency in Figma
- Hands-on implementation experience and handoff formats including Lottie, Rive, or Bodymovin; ability to work directly with engineers through implementation
- Mastery of core animation principles (easing, timing, squash and stretch, anticipation, choreography) with deep experience applying them to UI motion
- Extensive experience building and owning a motion design system or style guide end-to-end, with reusable, componentized motion assets
- Solid interaction design and UX fundamentals, able to partner with product designers as a peer
- Strong fluency in code-driven animation (CSS/JS transitions, Lottie JSON, GSAP, Framer Motion, React Spring, or native Core Animation) for credible engineering conversations
- An exceptional portfolio showing range across product micro-interactions, onboarding and key flows, 3D/dimensional work, and brand or campaign motion, including systemized motion work
- Exceptional craft fundamentals: typography in motion, color, spatial composition, timing, including where relevant sound-synced animation
- Proven ability to present and defend motion design decisions to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
- Proven capability to operate as the sole in-house motion expert, setting standards and processes without an existing internal motion team
