Instructional Lab Coordinator – Graphic Design
Job Description
The Instructional Lab Coordinator for Graphic Design plans, coordinates, and supports day-to-day instructional lab activities for the Graphic Design program. The role provides technical, operational, and instructional assistance while ensuring design studios, computer labs, creative technologies, and production equipment are ready for student use.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee lab operations and identify potential challenges or issues, notifying the Department Chair and/or Associate Dean as needed.
- Recommend and maintain effective lab practices and procedures, including safe operating procedures for instructional equipment, technology, and studio spaces in line with applicable college safety guidelines.
- Monitor supply needs, initiate orders, and consult with the Department Chair or Associate Dean and the Instructional Office Assistant regarding purchase requisitions and budgets. Maintain inventory records to ensure instructional supplies, equipment, and technology remain available for students.
- Support and participate in Graphic Design program events, including portfolio reviews, exhibitions, open houses, recruitment activities, industry engagement events, and other college-sponsored initiatives.
- Research emerging creative technologies and advise the Department Chair and/or Associate Dean on equipment, software, and technology needs. Maintain current quotes to support future capital purchases.
- Maintain a complete accounting inventory of equipment, coordinate with inventory control, and manage repair, replacement, and disposal of outdated or non-functional equipment.
- Prepare facilities for classes, ensuring computers, equipment, materials, software, and instructional resources are available for instruction.
- Provide technical support to faculty and students, covering industry-standard software, hardware, printers, scanners, photography equipment, and other creative technologies used throughout the curriculum.
- Assist students during scheduled lab hours by guiding equipment operation, file preparation, production workflows, and best practices while reinforcing faculty instruction.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance and troubleshooting for computers, printers, plotters, photography equipment, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, and other instructional technologies as applicable.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop and improve instructional resources, workflows, and lab procedures that support the student learning experience.
Required Education and Experience
- Associate degree in Graphic Design or a closely related field, along with two years of professional experience in graphic design, digital media, print production, creative technologies, or a related creative industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Digital Media, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting instructional technology or educational laboratories.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, large-format printing, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, or other creative production technologies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of graphic design principles, digital production workflows, and creative technologies.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud and ability to troubleshoot creative production equipment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.
- Supervisory skills.
- Ability to work well with others in a diverse background.

Role Details

Salary: USD 41,600 per yearly
