Digital Designer
Job Description
The National Hockey League’s Creative Service Department is seeking a Digital Designer to help shape the league’s digital presence. In this hybrid role based in New York, NY, you will collaborate with senior creatives to produce graphics, images, and templates that support multiple departments and initiatives, often under tight timelines.
Role overview
You will take business objectives, concepts, and information and translate them into visually compelling digital designs. The work is guided by NHL Brand guidelines, with room for creative flair, while ensuring deliverables meet digital specifications, quality standards, and deadlines. You will also support ongoing improvement by refining your skills and collaborating closely with the Creative Service Team and relevant stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Work with and take direction from senior creatives to convert objectives and concepts into digital designs under tight deadlines.
- Create assets that follow established NHL Brand guidelines while bringing creative flair to the final work.
- Follow instructions while applying conceptual skills, working both as part of a team and independently.
- Develop an understanding of project strategy, audience, and goals to deliver on-brand creative.
- Maintain a consistent brand image across design development and projects.
- Ensure all work conforms to required digital specs, quality standards, and delivery timelines.
- Seek opportunities to continually improve job skills.
- Collaborate with the Creative Service Team and stakeholders throughout projects.
Requirements
- Minimum 2-3 years of digital design experience.
- Solid understanding of digital design principles, typography, the design process, and current design trends.
- Strong working knowledge of commonly used design software, including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Animate, InDesign, Acrobat, After Effects) and other digital design tools.
- Basic understanding of Adobe Firefly.
- Knowledge of digital production and best practices.
- Submit a portfolio link with recent, relevant samples for consideration.
- Experience gained preferably with an agency or in-house design group, professional sports, or entertainment background.
- Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and programming languages is a plus.
- Experience designing websites for multiple screens is a plus.
- Knowledge of UI, UX, responsive and mobile design is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or a related field.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Motivated self-starter who can work well under pressure, independently, and in a team environment.
- Highly organized approach to work.
- Positive attitude, high energy, and passion for effective, solution-oriented work.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Problem-solving ability with experience visually communicating brand strategies that resonate with and engage fans/consumers.
