Creative Director
Job Description
Boston hybrid role with a studio culture built around creative leadership, mentorship, and high-quality experiences. As a Creative Director at George P. Johnson Experience Marketing, you will lead creative ideation and innovative thinking, partner closely with clients and internal teams, and help shape the next generation of work through strong creative direction and collaborative standards.
What you’ll do
- Supervise account-based creative teams day-to-day to drive success and consistent output.
- Manage 1-4 direct reports, investing in career paths, growth, and development.
- Lead planning and strategy sessions that result in clear creative briefs.
- Partner with creative leadership to create high-quality, strategic presentations that exceed client expectations using copywriting, sketches, renders, mock-ups, and presentation materials.
- Lead project creative teams, overseeing execution to ensure the highest quality output.
- Develop and push multiple concepts and solutions to meet client objectives, while understanding impact to the larger business and GPJ.
- Contribute to NBD efforts by developing ideas and pitching to success.
- Maintain budgets and track allocated hours to support profitability for the creative team, in partnership with Creative Project Managers and Account Teams.
- Collaborate with IP, graphics production, fabrication, and creative tech to set agency standards and solve design and budgetary challenges while protecting design and brand integrity.
- Represent the agency with integrity and confidence with clients and at industry events.
- Build and maintain personal client relationships, inspiring trust and managing expectations.
- Collaborate across departments to heighten a brand’s significance and performance.
Your focus areas
You will guide overall creative strategy, customer journey thinking, and how creative delivers results across a range of events: trade shows, launch events, lifestyle events, sports and entertainment, conferences, and PR opportunities.
What you bring
- Team leadership: provide direction to fulfill GPJ vision of creative leadership in Experience Marketing.
- Creative breadth: broad-based exposure to art, design, music, media, and content, with a constant drive to learn.
- Communication: strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey and sell ideas clearly and briefly during brainstorms or client presentations.
- Experience: minimum of 10 years industry experience or related creative process experience combining strategy, content, message, and creative deliverables.
- Education: minimum of a four-year degree in Design, Advertising, Theater, or a related creative discipline.
- Creative leadership: ability to lead, motivate, and inspire the creative team while keeping the creative process aligned with GPJ business goals and objectives.
- Big-picture thinking: idea-driven approach with the drive to develop new methods, products, procedures, or technologies.
- Speed and adaptability: decisive, responsive, and fast acting, staying cool under pressure and adapting on the spot without sacrificing quality.
- Operational planning: allocate time and resources effectively (full-time and freelance) so work is completed within defined timeframes and budgets.
- Mobility and availability: ability to travel 25%, and work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Event expertise: Event and Experience Design expertise is desirable.

Salary is dependent on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) experience, skills, and location.
