Creative Director
Job Description
Northwood Space is seeking a Creative Director to establish and lead the company’s visual presence from the ground up. In this onsite role in Los Angeles, you will partner with senior leadership to build a clear, scalable visual identity, direct major external touch points, and turn complex technical systems into visual narratives that diverse audiences can understand.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and continuously evolve Northwood’s visual identity to reflect the vision, ambition, and clarity of the systems the company builds.
- Concept and art direct major external touch points, including investor materials and announcements, customer-facing collateral, recruiting assets, and web presence.
- Translate complex technical systems into visual narratives that are clear and compelling for customers, partners, regulators, and talent.
- Partner closely with the Head of Communications to bring Northwood’s narrative to life visually, ensuring alignment between messaging and visual execution.
- Direct photo, video, and design production, collaborating with external creatives such as photographers, filmmakers, illustrators, and agencies to deliver work at a high level of quality.
- Determine when to build in-house versus using external partners, and lead external engagements as the creative authority through direction, feedback, and quality control.
- Develop repeatable visual systems and frameworks that support scalable output while maintaining coherence and quality.
- Serve as a creative partner to leadership, shaping company communication in high-stakes moments where clarity and credibility matter.
- Set and uphold a high bar for craft across all outputs, from smaller artifacts to flagship moments.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in visual design, brand, or art direction, with a portfolio demonstrating a high bar for quality across multiple mediums.
- Experience defining and evolving visual identity systems, not only executing within existing frameworks.
- Strong conceptual thinking with the ability to carry ideas through to high-quality execution across formats such as presentations, web, print, photo, and video.
- Hands-on proficiency in design tools and workflows, including comfort with producing work personally when needed.
- Experience directing external partners (agencies, photographers, filmmakers, and others) while maintaining creative control through production.
- Ability to translate complex or technical concepts into clear, credible visual narratives for sophisticated audiences.
- Strong creative judgment and confidence to make decisions with incomplete information, particularly in high-stakes or ambiguous situations.
- Experience collaborating with senior leadership or founders, including understanding how to shape company-level communication and perception.
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
- On-site availability 5 days per week.
Location and Compensation
- Location: Los Angeles, CA (onsite)
- Salary: USD 150,000 - 200,000 per year
