Job Description

Saint Joseph’s University offers a part-time, non-tenure track Adjunct Faculty role teaching Graphic Design courses on a semester-by-semester basis in Lower Merion, PA (onsite, in-person only). Re-appointment depends on university needs, student enrollment, and satisfactory performance, with teaching responsibilities assigned by the Department Chair. Compensation is determined by educational credentials, professional experience, and instructional background.

Support for students is central to this position. You will provide guidance and mentorship, maintain consistent communication, and hold regular office hours while using the university’s learning management system to deliver instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Support and guide students throughout the course
  • Instruct assigned course(s) by providing syllabi and other instructional materials
  • Teach assigned Graphic Design course(s) and facilitate learning with structured assignments and assessments
  • Prepare course materials, assignments, and assessments for delivery
  • Use Canvas (or the university’s learning management system) to deliver instruction
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship, with regular student communication
  • Hold regular office hours
  • Report mid-semester and final grades electronically
  • Maintain consistent communication with students and participate in occasional meetings with the Department Chair or program faculty
  • Collaborate with course coordinators to support curricular consistency and quality
  • Support departmental goals related to student learning and engagement

Requirements

  • MFA in Graphic Design or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Professional experience in graphic design, visual communication, or related creative industries
  • Proficiency with industry-standard software such as Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Prior college-level teaching experience
  • Flexibility to adapt course content for students with varied backgrounds
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Professional or teaching experience in UX, interaction design, or digital design

Additional details

This is an in-person only position. Physical and other requirements may include standing for long periods, talking for long periods, and carrying course materials.

Re-appointment is based on university need, student enrollment, and satisfactory performance, and these roles are screened on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applicants must follow the terms and conditions of employment at Saint Joseph’s University, including the Faculty Handbook.

Notice to out-of-state applicants: Saint Joseph’s University may only consider applicants from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York (not including New York City zip codes), and Delaware. Delaware residents must regularly be present for over 50% of work time on an SJU campus. Relocation support may be available but is not guaranteed.
