The role is a Senior Product Designer for wearables at Instagram, based in San Francisco, CA with onsite responsibilities. The position guides the Instagram experience across Meta’s wearables portfolio, emphasizing mobile and shaping on-device interactions, companion app features, and how Instagram is experienced on emerging form factors.
Responsibilities
- Translate broad, conceptual ideas for Instagram on wearables into useful experiences for 2 billion+ users, directing product strategy and innovation across a large organization.
- Define and advance the long-term design vision for Instagram across Meta’s wearables portfolio, including Ray-Ban Meta glasses, Quest, and future devices, crafting end-to-end flows and prototypes that scale to large user bases.
- Own end-to-end wearables mobile design and support display experiences (AR glasses), evolving visual systems for emerging form factors.
- Drive design prioritization and execution across the wearables initiative, maintaining momentum and navigating cross-organizational dependencies to meet tight timelines.
- Present strategic decisions to VPs and Directors, aligning on strategy and securing leadership buy-in.
- Influence alignment on product direction across multiple organizations and partners, balancing competing priorities with diplomacy.
- Act as a key cross-functional IC lead accountable for the wearables design initiative, contributing to workstream operations when needed to unblock the team.
- Provide and solicit feedback to continually raise the bar for wearables design quality, uphold Instagram’s craft standards, and mentor partner teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field and 8+ years of relevant experience.
- 8+ years of experience building and shipping applications or software at company-scale, leading end-to-end experiences in a large, ambiguous domain.
- Interaction design expertise with a track record of defining and evangelizing how experiences should behave based on user needs, with scalable approaches and prototyping tools to demonstrate interactions.
- Visual design proficiency across typography, desktop/mobile UI, color, layout, iconography, and aesthetics, and how these elements influence product function.
- Strategic product thinking with experience setting product goals, identifying global opportunities, and making decisions grounded in user and business impact.
- Experience presenting work to executives, clearly communicating goals and concepts in concise terms.
