Web Designer/Administrator Senior (Intermediate underfill)

The Equity, Civil Rights and Title IX (ECRT) Office at the University of Michigan is seeking a Web Designer/Administrator Senior (Intermediate underfill) to lead the design, administration, and continuous improvement of multiple WordPress properties. This hybrid role supports accessible digital experiences and helps teams communicate key information through ongoing web work and monthly newsletter production.

In this position, you will manage several ECRT websites, build and deploy content, and use analytics to guide strategy across pages, navigation, and user journeys. You will also partner with communications and internal teams to deliver newsletters and tracking reports, while ensuring accessibility standards are met across web content and hosted media.

What you will do

• Manage website properties to keep sites secure, engaging, user-friendly, and accessible.
• Design, build, deploy, and maintain website content for ecrt.umich.edu, disability.umich.edu, pear.umich.edu, and an intranet website.
• Provide consultative guidance for accessibility.umich.edu, a co-owned digital accessibility site.
• Own website information architecture, including navigation, page structure, content strategy, and organization across ECRT sites.
• Perform routine WordPress/Pantheon maintenance, including updates to third-party extensions deployed to the sites.
• Ensure web, content, and hosted video or media meet university accessibility expectations, including consultation to support WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.
• Develop a comprehensive web content strategy to improve how information is presented and accessed across ECRT websites.
• Manage web projects from discovery through implementation, testing, launch, and ongoing improvement.
• Lead redesign efforts for ecrt.umich.edu and support periodic redesigns or refreshes for other web properties as directed.
• Collaborate with the communications team and internal partners to produce monthly newsletters, handling design, build, and publish workflows using Mailchimp.
• Use Google Analytics (GA4) and other tools to evaluate performance and inform content strategy.
• Contribute to monthly tracking reports showing website and newsletter performance.
• Research and implement best practices and new tools to improve efficiency and impact.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (preferably in web design/development, user experience, graphic design, communications, or a related field).
• 5+ years of relevant experience in web design or a closely related role, preferably in an educational setting.
• Portfolio submission of original work demonstrating proficiency in design and deployment of websites and web content.
• Strong knowledge of web technologies and CMS workflows, including HTML and CSS, accessibility practices (including appropriate use of ARIA), and familiarity with JavaScript and other front-end web technologies.
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining websites from concept through launch.
• Experience with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp.
• Demonstrable ability to work independently to create secure, accessible, high-impact websites.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to partner cross-functionally and explain concepts to a non-technical audience.
• Commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, including familiarity with WCAG 2.1 AA and how it applies to digital assets.

Compensation and location

• Location: Ann Arbor, MI (hybrid)
• Salary: USD 72,500 - 77,000 per year

Work mode

• Hybrid role with a minimum of three (3) days per week in the office.
• Work modality is subject to change.
• Position is primarily on campus and in-person.
