Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor, Graphic Design

The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith invites applications for a one-year, non-tenure-track Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor position in Graphic Design. The appointment focuses on teaching introductory and Foundations courses, with 24 contract hours annually, and offers an opportunity to contribute to a diverse Art and Graphic Design program.

Responsibilities

• Teach lower-level graphic design courses and Foundations, with potential upper-level offerings aligned to the candidate’s expertise and department needs
• Assess and evaluate student learning outcomes and progress
• Support diverse student learning needs through responsive feedback and instruction
• Employ an inclusive, inventive approach to classroom pedagogy
• Fulfill other duties as assigned
• Commit to inclusive teaching practices with awareness of their impact on pedagogy and professional training in Graphic Design
• Demonstrate knowledge of the historical and cultural contexts relevant to the work and its teaching
• Maintain productive relationships with students, faculty, and staff from varied backgrounds
• Utilize a variety of teaching methods and modalities to reach different learners
• Foster a positive work environment, provide leadership when appropriate, and maintain on-time attendance

Requirements

• Terminal degree in Graphic Design or related fields is preferred; an exceptional candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related fields may be considered in extraordinary circumstances
• Documented creative or professional practice in Design
• Experience teaching at the college or university level
• All qualifying terminal degrees must be completed prior to the hire date

Salary Information

Salary range is USD 50,000 to 52,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.

Education and Qualifications

Preferred: terminal degree in Graphic Design or related field. Extraordinary consideration may be given to candidates with a strong Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related areas.

Work Environment and Scheduling

Work primarily occurs in an office, classroom, or studio setting. The position supports multiple teaching modalities and varied student learning styles. Occasional travel may be required. Standard workweek typically runs Monday through Friday, with hours arranged according to teaching load and department duties. Regular communication and timely attendance are expected.
