The Staff Product Designer role sits on Okta’s Emerging Products Design Team (Auth0), partnering with a cross-functional group to shape design systems for developers building next-generation identity features. The work blends systems thinking with quality, user experience, and customer voice, with hands-on prototyping inside a React and Next.js codebase.

Role Overview

As part of Emerging Products, you will design systems that help developers secure AI agents, manage granular permissions, and build on identity primitives that do not fully exist yet. The team works in a shared problem-solving model with Engineers, PMs, and Designers tackling the work at the same time, without a design-then-build handoff.

Responsibilities

Prototype at volume: Use AI tools and code to explore many directions quickly, then narrow based on what works and what resolves the actual problem.
Design in the codebase: Refine components and interactions within the React and Next.js environment where users will experience them.
Simplify complexity: Translate authorization models, SDK patterns, and security flows into interfaces that feel clear while maintaining precision.
Raise the craft: Demonstrate a way of working in practice so the broader design organization can learn from it as the team iterates together.

Requirements

You have craft: Strength in typography, intentional spacing, polished micro-interactions, and design details that reflect care. A refined sense of aesthetics and deep attention to what produces a polished user experience.
You build: 6+ years of design experience, including browser prototyping, shipping side projects, or writing production code to match the interaction to the intended outcome.
You have a real AI practice: A practiced workflow with clear opinions on where AI tools add value and where they do not.
You design for developers: Familiarity with tools, APIs, CLIs, SDKs, and admin dashboards, including the idea that “simple” has specific meaning for developer audiences.

Location and Salary

Base Salary Range: USD 140,000 - 193,000 per year

Salary Range Note: The annual base salary range for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between $140,000 and $193,000 USD.
