Senior Motion Designer
Job Description
General Motors is looking for a Senior Motion Designer to join the Human Interface Design (HID) team within Advanced UX. Based in Warren, MI (onsite), you will help shape next-generation in-vehicle interactions by translating UX concepts into motion-forward visualizations, prototypes, and design assets. The work focuses on conceptual direction, rapid iteration, and 2D/3D exploration that supports future-state mobility experiences.
What you’ll do
- Develop advanced UX concepts and visual directions that influence future in-vehicle experiences, using storyboards, narrative flows, and clear visual storytelling.
- Create scalable design systems, visual languages, and interface frameworks to support cohesive, repeatable solutions across platforms and features.
- Produce high-quality concept visuals, including 2D illustrations, UI explorations, motion studies, and simple 3D models or animations to bring interactions to life.
- Build low- to high-fidelity prototypes that help drive decisions, validate interaction patterns, and demonstrate feature flows or motion behaviors.
- Iterate quickly on user flows, interaction models, and motion behaviors, refining experience direction based on feedback and user needs.
- Deliver polished design assets such as layouts, sketches, motion graphics, and user journeys that are collaboration-ready for handoff.
- Collaborate with and present to cross-functional partners (design, engineering, product, suppliers), contributing inspiration from UX, mobility, gaming, and consumer tech trends to support major product decisions.
What you bring
- Motion, animation, or conceptual 3D experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience in UX Design, Product Design, Human Interface Design, or related fields.
- A strong, thoughtfully curated design portfolio showing end-to-end UX process and systems thinking; prototyping from low to high fidelity; visual storytelling and narrative design; and complex interaction design.
- Expert proficiency in Figma and advanced prototyping tools such as ProtoPie.
Tools and technologies
- Figma, ProtoPie, After Effects, Vizcom, Sketch, XD
- Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro
Preferred qualifications
- Strong proficiency in After Effects, Vizcom, Sketch, XD, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator.
- Working knowledge of 3D modeling workflows.
- Previous experience using video creation and editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent.
- Understanding of engineering and software constraints.
