Job Description

Okta is hiring a Motion Designer in New York, NY (onsite) to help shape a world-class motion identity. In this role, you’ll support the rigor of a central motion design system while also creating bespoke, high-impact animation for critical brand moments across events, campaigns, and digital experiences.

Salary: USD 84,000 - 115,000 per year. Experience: 3+ years.

What you’ll do

  • Shift between scaling Okta’s central motion design system and executing custom, high-visibility animation for campaigns, events, digital experiences, and video.
  • Advance Okta’s motion guidelines and infrastructure by designing, documenting, and maintaining modular After Effects project templates, Essential Graphics (MOGRTs), and reusable motion libraries for internal teams and external agency partners.
  • Create bespoke motion packages for flagship events like Oktane and major industry activations including AWS re:Invent, RSAC, and NRF, including immersive keynote walk-in loops, speaker intros, and environmental stage graphics tuned to custom LED dimensions.
  • Collaborate with a Senior Motion Designer and Creative Leads to translate campaign briefs into expressive motion graphics, kinetic typography, and animated concepts for product launches, brand announcements, and company milestones.
  • Elevate social storytelling and digital touchpoints on channels such as LinkedIn, YouTube, and X, translating complex enterprise security and AI narratives into attention-grabbing visual content.
  • Work with video editors and producers on title sequences, kinetic type treatments, UI animations, and motion graphic overlays for customer case studies, product sizzles, and brand films.
  • Experiment with new kinetic expressions for Okta’s visual identity, testing how visual language, iconography, and graphic elements perform dynamically in both 2D and 3D.
  • Own motion production end-to-end, from styleframes and storyboarding through animation, audio sync, rendering, compression, and final delivery across broadcast, web, social, and non-standard event display formats.

What you bring

  • 3+ years of dedicated motion design experience in-house at a fast-paced tech company, creative branding agency, or motion studio, with equal strength in both system building and bespoke creative execution.
  • The ability to balance disciplined, organized systems thinking (templates, toolkits, and brand consistency) with the agility and creative drive needed for unique motion moments.
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, and the core Adobe Creative Cloud suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), plus strong fundamentals including kinetic typography, spatial staging, easing curves, rhythm, and visual hierarchy.
  • Hands-on experience developing modular After Effects templates, Essential Graphics/MOGRTs, and standardized project setups that enable team scalability.
  • A standout reel and portfolio showing range across event stage animations, campaign hero pieces, social content, and structured motion toolkits.
  • Strong command of digital video formats, including aspect ratios, framerates, codecs, and render optimization across mobile, desktop, and large-format screen arrays.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, comfort advocating for motion rationale, and the ability to adapt through feedback in an iterative, fast-moving environment.

About the role

As a Motion Designer, you’ll occupy an intersection of motion systems rigor and bespoke creative craft. This role is built for motion designers who enjoy both micro-level detail in timing and easing and the larger impact of reusable motion systems that help a brand scale across digital and physical environments.
