Job Description

TMAC Communications is seeking a mid-level web designer in Gaithersburg, MD to help establish a new website or websites for three economic development organizations in New York. This contract role focuses on creating an interactive, engaging UI/UX and delivering website content and functionality with an emphasis on WordPress.

Project Overview

The engagement will involve designing, testing, and implementing website content and features for multiple organizations. The work will primarily use WordPress, with attention to usability, visual consistency, and performance across different environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop creative concepts in collaboration with clients.
  • Test and refine website designs to support continuous improvement.
  • Create and apply design guidelines, standards, and best practices.
  • Maintain website appearance by enforcing content standards.
  • Design website visual imagery and ensure alignment with each organization’s brand identity.
  • Work with WordPress content management systems.
  • Communicate design intent using user flows, process flows, site maps, and wireframes.
  • Incorporate website functionalities and features.
  • Design sample pages, including colors and fonts.
  • Prepare design plans and present the proposed website structure.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in graphic design software, including Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, plus other visual design tools.
  • Proficiency in front-end web programming languages: HTML and CSS, with JQuery and JavaScript.
  • Strong working knowledge of WordPress content management systems and theme templates.
  • Good understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) principles.
  • Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues.
  • Excellent visual design skills, with the ability to generate new ideas.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • 5 to 7 years of related experience.

Key Technologies

Work will focus on WordPress CMS and include HTML, CSS, JQuery, JavaScript, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator.
