Instructor or Assistant Professor of Graphic Design
Job Description
Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN is seeking a full-time, tenure track instructor or assistant professor for the Fine Arts Department. In this onsite role, you will support the academic mission through undergraduate teaching in graphic design, academic advising for departmental majors, and continued scholarly and service contributions.
The position includes teaching courses within the Art curriculum, with assignments that may span core graphic design and foundational studio offerings.
Role Summary
- Teach undergraduate courses in graphic design and related areas within the Art curriculum.
- Serve as academic advisor for departmental majors.
- Contribute to scholarly activity.
- Participate in department, college, university, and student service.
- Help initiate and develop new programs within the Department of Fine Arts.
- Support university commitments including scheduled committees and meetings as assigned.
- Abide by University policies governing behavior and fulfillment of position and contract requirements.
Teaching and Service Expectations
- 27 hours of teaching, as assigned annually, within the Department of Fine Arts.
- Serve on University committees as assigned.
- Attend daily Chapel.
- Participate in program, department, college, or faculty meetings as requested.
- Participate in University recruitment activities.
- Job duties may include other assigned responsibilities to maintain operations and services.
Courses Within the Art Curriculum
This position is responsible for teaching courses within the Art curriculum, including but not limited to:
- Two-Dimensional Design
- Graphic Design Fundamentals
- Graphic Design I
- Graphic Design II
- Typography
- Color Theory
Required Qualifications
- An active member in good standing of the churches of Christ.
- An earned terminal degree in graphic design or another related field. Master’s degrees are also considered at the instructor level.
- Strong core competencies in design practice, technology, and software.
- Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite.
- Evidence of prior scholarship of discovery, integration, application, and/or teaching and learning is preferred, along with a commitment to ongoing scholarship.
- Demonstrated competence and commitment to quality undergraduate teaching that supports learning environments for active and engaged learning in graphic design.
