Job Description
Remote freelance graphic design engagement for Higher Heights to support ongoing communications, digital programming, and campaign work in 2026. The role is freelance/retainer or project-based, not full-time or part-time.
Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing weekly design support and accommodate requests and edits during surge periods, including elections, major announcements, and rapid-response moments.
- Create social media graphics and templates.
- Develop email and digital marketing graphics.
- Produce livestream and virtual event assets, such as title cards, lower thirds, and promotional graphics.
- Develop event branding and promotional materials.
- Design presentations and reports.
- Further develop Higher Heights visual and design guide.
- Generate graphics supporting candidate engagement and political programs.
- Create fundraising and donor materials.
- Produce visuals for research and polling reports.
- Build branded toolkits and downloadable resources.
- Produce retail merchandising graphics.
- Adhere to Higher Heights brand guidelines.
- Refine and expand visual systems as needed.
- Ensure consistent visual identity across platforms and campaigns.
- Respondents are responsible for all taxes, insurance, and statutory obligations associated with independent contractor status.
Requirements
- Proven experience as an independent or freelance graphic designer.
- Strong portfolio reflecting digital-first design and storytelling.
- Experience supporting advocacy, nonprofit, or political organizations.
- Ability to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging visuals.
- Familiarity with social media best practices and platform requirements.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Cultural competency and experience working with Black-led organizations (preferred).
Technologies
- Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
- Canva or similar collaborative platforms (preferred)
- Basic motion or animated graphics tools (a plus)

- Rapid-response social media visuals tied to breaking news
- Fundraising and voter mobilization assets
- Election night and results-related graphics
- Multi-platform design packages delivered on accelerated timelines
