Job Description

The Director of Graphic Design for Football at West Virginia University Athletics leads branding, recruiting materials, and multimedia content for WVU Football. Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletics Director/Chief of Staff – Football, this role oversees interns and collaborates with staff across communications, recruitment, and promotions to elevate the program's visual identity.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate communications and marketing efforts from the on-field coaching staff to priority recruits.
  • Apply creative design expertise to produce recruiting collateral for the Head Football Coach.
  • Generate timely digital content for the Head Football Coach, including graphics, photography, and video production.
  • Develop presentations for the Head Football Coach to support program enhancement and recruiting efforts.
  • Collaborate with the football graphic designer and the creative video team on Head Coach communication needs.
  • Partner with recruiting and creative staff to maximize visibility of the Head Coach and WVU Football to top recruits and fans.
  • Oversee branding and storytelling for building content, including digital boards and televisions.
  • Manage and mentor student interns assisting with content creation, research, and strategy.
  • Join recruiting meetings with the Head Coach and recruiting staff to capture actionable insights for marketing to priority recruits.
  • Offer innovative ideas to the Head Coach, football administration, and external staff, including creative and recruiting teams.
  • Contribute to the design of materials promoting the football program, such as recruiting letters, signage, logos, sales decks, brochures, flyers, forms, and marketing presentations.
  • Assist in preparing materials for television productions.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant AD for Creative/Branding, photographers, videographers, designers, illustrators, and web content developers to produce promotional material across web, video, and multimedia.
  • Support the delegation of assignments to freelancers and third-party contributors as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletics Director/Chief of Staff – Football and/or Head Football Coach.
  • Remain knowledgeable of and comply with WVU, Big 12, and NCAA rules and guidelines; adhere to NCAA Bylaw 11.1 Conduct of Athletic Personnel; violations may trigger disciplinary action.
  • Represent the university with professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct, respecting diversity and addressing issues related to race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation with sensitivity.
  • Foster a cooperative attitude across the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Adapt to evolving situations, work independently, and cultivate relationships with student-athletes, coaches, staff, and contractors; leverage creativity to develop new approaches in addressing program needs.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information about student-athletes, coaches, and staff with discretion to protect the university's image and compliance.
  • Manage time to handle time-sensitive issues, tight deadlines, extended hours, weekend work, and travel during the season; remain on-call as needed.
  • Execute duties in alignment with the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a creative field.
  • At least two years of experience in creative services and football recruiting, ideally at an NCAA Division I program.
  • Equivalent combination of education and related experience will be considered.
  • Ability to meet all qualifications by the start date.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Premiere and After Effects.
  • Proven track record of producing innovative multi-media content.
  • Experience with multi-media production platforms, including websites, animation, and graphic design.
  • Knowledge of professional and cinematic video cameras and video production processes (shooting, non-linear editing, color correction, audio).
  • Advanced skills in word processing, desktop publishing, and web writing software.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply design concepts across guides, web, multimedia, video, and photography.
  • Strong knowledge of professional photography including composition, lighting, editing, retouching, and color (black and white and color).
  • Proficiency with design software such as Quark, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Word, etc.
  • Familiarity with HTML and CSS development.
  • Ability to create and review high-quality digital media for effective dissemination of university information.
  • Solid understanding of NCAA and conference rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines; ability to apply them.
  • Experience in design, editing, marketing practices, and public relations; strong writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent creative, organizational, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks over extended periods and to plan, organize, and prioritize work independently.
  • Proactive mindset with strong communication and collaboration skills across diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain attendance and punctuality standards; willingness to work extended hours, including nights and weekends, with potential travel.
