Commissioning Art Director

Hasbro Inc. is seeking a Commissioning Art Director to support the Universes Beyond product line for Magic: The Gathering. This is a temporary contract role through an external staffing agency, with a hybrid work location in Renton, WA and an expected duration of 12 months.

Role Overview

The selected professional will commission a high volume of artwork, manage art direction across individual pieces, and review print-ready files to help ensure card quality. The work includes identifying freelance illustrators, maintaining partner relationships, and providing regular status updates to the card content producer.

Responsibilities

• Commission a high volume of artwork by identifying freelance illustrators for each piece, delivering continuous art direction per artwork, maintaining strong relationships with partners, and providing regular updates to the card content producer on art status.
• Research and understand partner brand IPs, convert reference materials into customized style guides, and art direct to external partners’ brand specifications.
• Review print-ready files to confirm final card quality.

Requirements

• 2+ years of commercial art experience.
• Strong communication and organizational skills, attention to detail, and comfort giving and receiving feedback.
• A portfolio demonstrating strong creative vision with a cinematic lens.
• Interest in pop culture with awareness of current entertainment industry trends.
• Understanding of Magic as both a game and a brand.
• Deep knowledge of the current fantasy illustration market and available talent, plus familiarity with modern print and press techniques and processes, including interest in discovering diverse, emerging artists.
• Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Compensation

USD $60 to $70 per hour. Starting pay range is $60/hour, with a pay range up to $70/hour.
