Job Description

Georgia Southern University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor (10-month academic year) position in the Graphic Design program. Based in Statesboro, GA on-site, the role combines undergraduate teaching with a maintained creative practice or research agenda, alongside service across departmental, college, and university levels, including student internship and travel oversight.

What You’ll Do

  • Teach undergraduate Graphic Design courses.
  • Maintain an active creative practice and/or research agenda.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.
  • Supervise student internships and academic or program-related travel with students.
  • Hold on-campus office hours and attend program and departmental meetings.
  • Serve on departmental committees.
  • Assist with student recruitment and participate in campus ceremonies.
  • Contribute to student assessment efforts.
  • Report to the Chair of the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art.

What You’ll Need

  • A terminal degree (PhD/MFA/MGD/MDes) in Graphic Design or a closely related field, earned by August 1, 2026, with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Graphic Design.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach all levels of an undergraduate Graphic Design program.
  • Strong understanding of graphic design history, theory, and contemporary practice.
  • A demonstrated record of creative work and/or research in Graphic Design.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to best practice in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  • Commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and producing appropriate research or creative activities for the discipline.

Preferred

  • Two or more years of full-time, university-level teaching experience.
  • Expertise in one of the following: UI/UX/IxD, data visualization, motion graphics, or exhibition design.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to consistently exhibit engaging customer service.
  • Ability to support various constituencies served by the University.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or other applications as required for the specific position.
  • Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support the University mission for student success.
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), plus organizational and human relations skills.

Employment Details

  • Exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
  • Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • Not a supervisory position.
  • This role will not require driving.
  • Not considered a position of trust.

Conditions of Employment
