Art Director
Job Description
Lead the creative direction of campaigns and initiatives through concept, visual storytelling, and people leadership across channels.
Responsibilities
- Create original concepts and visual narratives with copywriters and creative leadership; develop campaign ideas that reinforce and elevate the American Cancer Society brand through cohesive storytelling across all channels (35%)
- Direct design and execution of static and motion assets for digital, print, and experiential touchpoints; ensure deliverables support creative excellence, brand consistency, brand recognition, and the integrity of ACS’s visual identity (20%)
- Manage and develop a small team of designers; provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and mentorship to grow skills and strengthen fluency in brand systems, visual standards, and storytelling (15%)
- Collaborate with marketing, communications, and project management partners to translate brand strategy into execution; align creative direction with organizational priorities and maintain a brand-first approach (10%)
- Present creative work and strategic rationale to senior leaders and stakeholders; explain how concepts express brand voice, visual identity, and narrative intent while advocating for solutions that strengthen ACS brand presence (10%)li>
- Ensure creative outputs adhere to brand guidelines, visual systems, accessibility standards, technical specifications, timelines, and budgets (5%)
- Explore emerging trends, technologies, and cultural insights through a brand lens; bring forward ideas that keep the ACS brand modern and culturally resonant while advancing creative innovation (5%)
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Digital Media, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Digital Design, Advertising, or related field
- Certificate(s) or license(s): none required; certifications in UX/UI, motion graphics, or leadership training are a plus
- 7–10 years in an agency, design studio, or in-house creative environment
- Portfolio demonstrating high-level concept development, multi-channel campaigns, and execution
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite
- Familiarity with design collaboration tools such as Figma and Sketch
- Strong conceptual thinking that connects strategy to compelling visual ideas
- Excellent design sense, including mastery of typography, layout, and brand systems
- Storytelling skills through design across digital, print, and experiential media
- Leadership and collaboration skills, including mentoring junior designers
- Ability to give and receive feedback in a respectful, proactive, constructive way
- Knowledge of emerging design trends, technologies, and cultural insights
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to oversee multiple projects
- Curious, problem-solving mindset with accountability for creative excellence

- Position type: Full time
- Salary range: USD 80,000 - 102,000 per year
Travel Requirements
- Occasional travel up to 20% may be required for team meetings, events, and/or video, photo, and production needs
