Job Description

Northern VA Community College seeks part-time adjunct faculty to teach graphic design courses onsite in Loudoun County, VA. This role supports meaningful instruction in a discipline where practical skills and clear teaching expectations matter, with structured responsibilities around course delivery, learning outcomes, and student assessment.

Compensation: USD 935 to 1,249 per week. Employment type: part time.

What you’ll do

  • Teach specific classes within the designated discipline.
  • Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
  • Maintain required records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
  • Adhere to NOVA and VCCS policies, procedures, and regulations, including professional ethics.
  • Maintain current competence in the graphic design field or area of specialization.
  • Meet assigned classes on required meeting dates and submit required records and reports.
  • Teach the prescribed courses of study using established texts and support student learning outcomes.

What we’re looking for

  • Adept knowledge of instructional technologies.
  • Advanced skills and understanding of the current version of Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Proven design experience outside of academia, with a diverse set of graphic design skills.
  • English proficiency: excellent interpersonal and native or near-native oral and written skills.
  • Spanish proficiency: excellent interpersonal and native or near-native oral and written skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • An earned Master’s degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.

Schedule and availability

  • Classes may be held during the day, evening, or a combination of both.
  • Daytime, evening, and/or weekend availability is desired.

Helpful qualifications

  • College-level teaching experience and/or relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to use instructional technologies.

Note: Adjunct faculty are expected to meet assigned classes on meeting dates and submit required grade records and reports, including student learning outcomes.
