Job Description
Part-time Adjunct - Graphic Design at Northern Virginia Community College (Loudoun campus) in Virginia, focusing on teaching graphic design courses, developing syllabi and instructional materials, and assessing student progress.
Responsibilities
- Plan and teach graphic design courses for students from diverse backgrounds across formats including face-to-face, remote, and online.
- Teach up to 12 credit hours in fall and spring semesters, or up to 8 credit hours in summer; load varies with enrollment and staffing needs.
- Instruct specific classes within the designated discipline and deliver instruction using prescribed courses and texts.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials aligned with program requirements.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress through multiple formats.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA and the VCCS.
- Maintain current competence in graphic design and related field.
- Meet assigned classes regularly and submit required records and reports, including student learning outcomes.
- Uphold professional ethics in accordance with College policies and regulations.
- May perform other duties as assigned and may assist the agency or state government during emergencies as declared by the Governor.
Requirements
- Adept knowledge of instructional technologies.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with native or near-native English proficiency; strong Spanish language skills also required.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
- Master’s degree from an accredited university or college.
- Proven design experience outside of academia with a diverse graphic design skill set.
- Advanced skills and understanding of the current version of Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check; may include fingerprint checks, local agency checks, employment verification, education verification, and related screenings.
- Adjunct appointment requires meeting assigned classes on schedule, submitting grade records and reports, and documenting student learning outcomes.
- Classes may be held during the day, in the evening, or both.
- Eligibility to work in the United States; the institution participates in E-Verify and requires completing the I-9 process.
