OpenAI is seeking a Product Designer to join People Innovation Labs, an engineering team embedded within the People organization. The group is focused on redesigning how OpenAI finds, retains, and supports talent, turning product thinking into internal tools people can rely on.
In this onsite role in San Francisco, CA, you’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, AI research, and design peers to define direction, design and ship improvements, and help shape how AI-first experiences take form across People products.
About the role
You’ll contribute to the overall design and product direction for internal People products at OpenAI. Work spans early concepting through high-fidelity prototypes and polished visuals, with an emphasis on delivering high-quality product outcomes. Projects include greenfield 0-1 efforts such as OpenHouse (an internal knowledge hub), as well as AI-powered automations and scalable recruiting tools.
People Innovation Labs is also working toward longer-term impact, creating a blueprint for how AI can supercharge productivity, culture, and innovation. The role is embedded with Product and Engineering to ensure design work connects to measurable business outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to product direction for internal People products
- Design and ship high-quality products and improvements from early concepts to high-fidelity prototypes and visuals
- Partner with engineering, product management, AI research, and design peers to align long-term strategy and short-term tactics
- Conduct user research to better understand users and refine products
- Contribute to and evolve the design system
- Help establish design culture and grow the team
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience shipping larger scale software products
- A portfolio demonstrating strong UX, UI, and interaction design skills with a high bar for quality and craft
- Ability to reason through complex interaction design problems
- Impactful communication and storytelling skills
- Comfort working through ambiguous problems and shaping them into a clear vision
- Interest in being immersed in the AI research process and defining how AI-first products should look and behave
Compensation
- $230,000 - $385,000 per year + Offers Equity
