VAST Summer Art Studio Workshop Instructor - Digital Media/Graphic Design

Join Penn State's VAST Summer Art Studio at the Penn State Altoona campus to lead a hands-on digital media and graphic design workshop for high school students. This onsite summer role offers competitive pay, the opportunity to mentor emerging designers, and a collaborative studio environment. You will guide students through logo design concepts and hands-on vinyl cutting and heat-press production, helping them translate ideas into print-ready files.

What you'll do

• Plan and deliver three structured 3-hour workshop sessions
• Introduce foundational graphic design concepts such as vector graphics, typography, and layout
• Guide students in Adobe Illustrator
• Prepare files for vinyl cutting and heat press application
• Provide individual feedback and maintain a safe, organized digital workspace

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media, Studio Art, or related field
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator
• Teaching or workshop experience
• Experience working with high school students

Program details and compensation

• Location: Penn State Altoona
• Camp Dates: July 13 – 17, 2026
• Digital Media Workshop Dates: July 14, 16, and 17, 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM
• Total Sessions: 3, 3-hour sessions (plus a ½ session on the first day)
• Compensation: $200 per session, $700 total

• PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form
• Federal FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check
