Job Description

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley invites applications for a part-time Lecturer in Graphic Design and Visual Communications. This on-site role, based on the Edinburg campus, begins in Spring 2026 and serves the BA, BFA, and MFA programs with teaching assignments in Graphic Design in Print, Multimedia, and Visual Communication Design. The position also encompasses student advising and participation in scholarship activities to support the college and university community.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering quality instruction in the program
  • Advising students
  • Participating in scholarship activities serving the college, university, or local community as needed
  • Teaching assignments include Graphic Design in Print, Multimedia, and Visual Communication Design

Requirements

  • Master of Fine Arts degree in graphic design from an accredited institution
  • MS degree with 18 graduate credits in the specific subject area; credit can be given for professional work experience
  • Part-time lecturer hired may be required to attend a training workshop on the use of Brightspace (D2L) and online teaching
  • Teaching experience is desirable
  • Ability to use technology to support teaching and learning
  • Lecturers must be willing to undertake assessment measures to contribute to the assessment data
  • No license or certification required

Additional information

  • UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code Β§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

Please note

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based 173 or internet-based 61) on the TOEFL or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the IELTS.
